Spurs head to the Black Country following a League Cup win away to West Ham Stratford London. Despite consecutive defeats, Wolves are off to a bright start in the PL under the guidance of the Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who is already a cult hero in Wolverhampton in part due to his great beard but mostly because of his success with the team. They line up in a 3-4-3 formation and like to play football, which shoud make for a cracking match at the atmospheric Molineux ground. Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have been added to our lengthy injury list, but at least Poch can call on Eriksen and Deli to bolster the attacking midfield. Hopefully Son's brace on Wednesday will be the catalyst for one of his famous hot streaks, while the gaffer will be crossing his fingers that Dembélé and Winks can stay healthy or we are going to be down to the "bare bones" in midfield as old 'Arry liked to say. COYS!
I've gotta work, so I won't be seeing this one. which is disappointing, as we're going to give them a proper stuffing.
So according to the commentary on flashscore Foyth has caused two penalties??? https://www.flashscore.com/match/b5u4ESPa/#live-commentary;0
Disagree. We were in control for most of the 90. Wolves, though they play a nice game, lack some quality. Lloris made some good saves, but so did Patricio. Still, the defensive mistakes almost cost us and I'm sure Poch is tearing them a new one in the locker room.
I didn't see the West Ham game, but over on SC everyone was raving about Foyth's performance. I think he got the better part of 200 votes for MoM out of 250, or so, cast. Tons of folks over there saying they'd like to see him get more starts in the league. Perhaps I'll go have a look at how they've rated the players in this one.
Fifth was actually very good up to the first penalty incident, strong and confident on the ball. There was a lovely moment in the second half where a wolves player closed him down as the last man - Foyth had no pass on, so dropped a shoulder and glided past him. The problem with a mentally raw young player though. The first penalty, an honest mistake, got into his head and he was a wreck after that. This lack of ability to kill off games is becoming a real problem, opposition teams won't ever lie down knowing they will still have a chance at a comeback. The good news is that we did hang on, 3 points won and only 3 behind Liverpool, and we are getting into winning positions. Get through this run of fixtures unscathed, get a full squad fit to choose from and we're still well set.
To be fair, Trippier gave the ball away to start the defensive chaos on the first penalty. Lloris earned his pay yesterday. What is up with Dier and Wanyama? We could use one of those two back.
Would’ve been a nice +3 boost to the GD until those stupid penalties! 3 pts but the defending has to get better FFS.
results keep coming in the league, even tho the overall performances have been shaky imagine if this team ever gets back to form of how it was playing a couple seasons ago
Good away performance for 65 minutes, then we went on self-destruct mode for the final quarter of the game. You have to expect a quality side at home will create some chances, and Lloris made the big saves at the key moments. Foyth will wear the goat horns for foolishly conceding 2 penalties, but he wasn't helped out by his teammates who once again failed to show any game management skills. In the build-up to both penalty incidents, we gave the ball away sloppily in midfield and Trippier's brainless attempt to try to nutmeg an opposing forward a few yards from our penalty box was his second howler in less than a week. Was impressed by their youngster Morgan Gibbs-White, who came on as a sub and was very influential in the final part of the game. He is the kind of player we used to sign and looking at how Dembélé and Wanyama can barely get through 90 minutes nowadays, we need to start looking at replenishing our midfield options.
