    here
I said in the previous thread that she's the closest thing to a playmaker we have right now. Tonight did nothing to change my opinion. A huge part of our offense is get Kling upfield, get her the ball. I think JE is trying to recreate that w/ O'hara, but there is no duplicating what Kling brings.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Must be a mistake by one of the TV production crew techs.

This is the first time in history, that the defending silver and bronze medal winners from the previous Women's World Cup will not go to the Olympics.

I'm disappointed that Japan won't be going - I love watching them play. Admittedly, I have no idea why they were bounced. Hopefully, it wasn't b/c of a post WC-spanking hangover. Hoping their lofty play returns soon.

At least they've had their chances, England deserves better.

With the small Olympic roster, isn't it a liability if a player only can play one position?

I remember Dunn playing wide on the left, but maybe that was as a defender. Press -- who has been one of my favorites, in the past -- has played on the right quite a bit, and with Krieger.

Technically:D:D, WWCM there are two more distinctions the USWNT have held since '91
    - MOSTEST TOTALLY AWESOMEST TEAM ON THE PLANET
    - THE ONLY TEAM THAT MATTERS

Some interesting quotes from ESPN post-game article.

While this may be true, Steffi Jones has a remarkable background otherwise, and is way smart enough to bring in the right staff to more than make up for any lack of coaching experience she has. I infer from your statement that you think she may be in over her head. No way.

The Event was outstanding. She was not in charge of the national team's performatce. You know this.

I really think we still need Rapinoe back, she still got the best cross and set piece ability.

    Steffi Jones is not intimidating.
I almost fear Hope Powell more with Japan.
She may keep them in the Top 10.

I don't think this is anything beyond the wild speculation of a certain poster....or at least I've heard nothing about it nor is there a whiff of any such news in the Nadeshiko thread. Actually the rumor over there and on social media is that the leading candidate for the job is the current U20 coach Takakura.

    It was obviously sarcasm. :p
But I did have a dream once that Hope Powell became the new head coach for Mexico.
That dream occurred like a year ago, even before Mexico's poor performance at last year's WWC.
And in the dream, they were favored to win in an upcoming match against the USWNT.
    Dreams can be very awkward.

Why do you hate Japan and Mexico so much? Hope Powell is THE "Destroyer". She was able to destroy the confidence of her players and keep the English women's team in the doldrums of international football. I admit that Hope would make an excellent hire for any team dealing with over confidence and feeling too good about themselves.

Hope Powell was the other finalist for the Matildas job. Fortunately the FFA wasn't completely rock-stupid and made the wise decision to hire Staj.

I once hated Japan WNT for 4 years, until last summer and I realized how stupid I was.

I never hated Japan for winning in 2011. They played tenaciously, held in, got the tying goal twice and were disciplined on penalties. They won the final fair and square.

I was even happier when they made it back to the final in 2015. That goosed ratings and allowed the USWNT once again to claim most widely viewed soccer match in American history.

Haha, I don't hate Japan or Mexico.
But Hope would make an excellent hire ..........

For any nation that wants to shut down their women's football program completely, and need to justify it.

And we can't hate Japan for Boxx, Heath, and Lloyd missing their penalty kicks.
It was the only time in a BIG match that Carli choked.
Even Michael Jordan didn't always hit his last shot in a close game in big playoff games.
