I am hoping Mueller -Schuerrle up top can be a poor men' Van Persie-Robben combo

Thank you... I thought no one else saw that ;)

So let me get this straight..

5 natural defenders, plus headless chicken, plus CM who never enters the box, plus headless chicken winger from 2006... That's the ideal lineup?

What's wrong with schurrle or gotze? They all of a sudden became shit?

I can't wait for Khedira to perform well so we can end this insane slander-fest.

This player can't seem to catch a break. Even being our best player in 2012 can't absolve him.

Well, the problem is he's not particularly technically-gifted, which makes him stick out like a sore thumb in this Germany side, nor is he adept at scoring. That combined with the fact that he's bursting forth at any opportunity possible in spite of these flaws doesn't endear him to anyone, regardless of how crucial/not crucial his energy or mobility is to the workings of Löw's 4-2-3-1.

    That's a highly debatable statement.

I thought you don't deal in absolutes?

Hm. Where is that post… Ah, yes!

Seems you do sirmanchester, it seems you do. Does this make you a - gasp - hypocrite?

Nonetheless he performed well at EURO 2012, wouldn't you say?

Yes, certainly. He was and still is an important player for Germany. But I don't think he was Germany's best player in Poland and Ukraine.

SirManchester saying it so casually, as if stating fact, when he has a stated interest in sticking to absolutes bothers me as well. Especially when he delivered that interest upon someone else in typical holier than thou format.

Loew will surprise tomorrow...everything points in that direction.Am sure with everything that has happened he will implement the best formation. This squad has enough depth to change things during any game.It all will come down to wanting it bad enough and these players most likely feel the regency as well.
Hopefully we will celebrate the victory tomorrow here!

Who was better in EURO 2012 then? Other than Gomez and Hummels, no one else comes to mind.

I share your concern. I hope we don't start him because we have to and run him into the ground. A real possibility.

I think it's context. He sticks out because he is on incredibly technical teams, one of three most technical club sides and one of three most technical nations. Having said that his technique is understated. He can make through passes and doesn't lack the speed of thought. He is just maybe more conservative and what sticks out most is his dreadful goal output. I think that hurts him more than anything but also the fact that he is used to harass opposition which makes people think he is a defensive midfielder but he is best in a Vidal-esque role. It hurt his development I think but he can still progress. Just needs to be on team that nurtures his strengths.

Hummels was my pick. I thought it was quite obvious he was the best, but I realize that's my opinion. Don't think Gomez was that much better than Khedira, if at all.

first i think Germany will surprise everyone and play a more direct approach. Podolski, Schuerrle and Khedira with thomas Mueller up top who can do a little bit of both (direct n possession)

Direct play, aerial ability and good crosses have proven to be EXTREMELY imporant this world Cup.

Last thing, is Loew stupid enough to disclose his starting lineup and tactics again? Based on that formtation n lineup, everything can be so easily figured out

    Or is everything a smokescreen?

Goetze can start ahead of Podolski. play him at RW, Schurrle at Lw and we may have more creativity up front. Just Kroos isnt enough

Came here learning about the possible team fielded by Germany and get a bunch of racist attacks from both sides. Grow up!

Any German can tell me what is the most likely approach to this match, or is it really that uncertain?

    --------------------Neuer--------------
    Boateng----Merte----Hummels--Howedes
    --------------------Lahm---------------------
    ---------Schweinie-------Kroos-------------
    Muller--------------Oezil-------------Goetze

Sub Schurrle for Schweine(80), Klose for Oezil((60) and Poldi for Goetze(65) - all of them have proven to be super subs
Don't understand why Loew would play Khedira over Schweinie
Lahm, Schweinie and Kroos have played many a time like this at Bayern Successfully!!!!

It sounds strange but nobody can tell you details, it's not even clear which system Germany will play. Must give Bento some headache.. but Germany fans suffer as well ;)

Löw may play with Lahm in center midfield and with 4 CBs in the defense. Upfront it's all open with several possible formations.
Germany will try to control the match and disallow Portuguese counterplay. That will be the main matchplan. An early goal will help for sure so they may come out with blazing guns for the first 15 minutes or so. After that the heat will slow down the match.

    in another news: http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/leute/schumacher-aus-koma-erwacht-a-975440.html

Schumacher woke up and has already left the hospital. About time and punctual for the World Cup. I see what you did here Michael ;)
