Grant Wahl is either trolling or trying to score brownie points.

Concacaf / Conmebol cannot switch dates for their final matches out of courtesy for a FIFA tournament.
TV and ticketing contracts were signed months in advance for those 3 tournaments. Hard to change match dates without incurring a breach on those contracts. If anything, FIFA should move its event accordingly.

Wahl thinks that 2 tournaments in the Americas must absorb financial penalties out of *respect* for another tournament in Europe.
Why? Because it is a ladies' tournament?

Notice how Wahl omits an active tournament in Africa, whose time slots collided with Women's WC: today, Nigeria overturned a 1-2 loss vs Cameroon during the same time slot where Sweden beat England.

In Wahl's world, African men's football is not a threat to Women's WC viewership, while Concacaf/Conmebol men's football is.

What's wrong Wahl? African men's football not relevant enough?
Or you just forgot about Africa while trying to score brownie points with women's football advocates?

we have this thing in the USA called the law: equal pay for equal work. It's the law. I'd like to hear the USSF argument that the women don't do equal work. They certainly last a lot longer in tournaments than the men, so maybe they should be paid more! LOL.

They've already made that argument and quite successfully. If not, then this wouldn't be the first time we've seen the women try to sue for equal pay. They would've done it 20 years ago.

The Men's U-17s also do the equal work by that logic (and are much, much better than the women's team). Should they sue for equal pay as well?

Of course not. That would be ridiculous as is any lawsuit by the women.

I want to cheer for them, but my notion of sportsmanship asks questions.

The attention-grabbing players are contemptible, for they're strident, triumphal.

And I suspect that teammates feel the same way.

Anyway, I won't be unhappy if they lose.

The face of the team is angry; they're ugly winners.

Yeah, not sure that idea really is accurate here though.

Joe's Tuna Shack and McDonald's may both be restaurants, but certainly not comparable. Nobody is going to pay the same for Nike and a pair of Dunlops because they are both athletic shoes. Or if we stick close to sports, nobody thought XFL players should be paid the same as NFL, or the APBL and NBA.

Can you imaging telling people in England they have to pay £58 to watch the Manchester United women match (Currently £39) because of equality? Im guessing there wouldn't be a ManU women's team much longer.

Should the Women's and Men's teams should just face off against each other in every country to see who represents the country for that 4 year cycle? The winner gets paid and the lose gets the B squad payment...

I guess Office_Space is back with a sock puppet.

What evidence do I have the FIFA controls the international calendar? Seriously? There's pages and pages of FIFA regulations governing international dates and the international calendar.

    Here is just a sampling:

No, what evidence do you have that FIFA can just tell CONCACAF and CONMEBOL when to schedule their Final.

FIFA sets aside a time window for confederations, but doesn't set the specific date. As long as the confederations scheduled their finals within the summer window FIFA gave them, FIFA isn't going to do anything.

I've gotten used to the sensation of U.S. humiliation and defeat in the last few years, so it's good to see the U.S. win again.

Let's hope that trend continues tonight

Didn't end up watching the final. They won. Don't really care. Maybe that is my fault, probably. It is what it is.
