I'm not totally impartial commenting about Leeds United because Sheffield and Leeds are the 2 biggest cities in Yorkshire and are of a similiar size. Sheffield is the birthplace of football in the UK, it has the two oldest clubs in world football( Sheffield FC and Hallam FC) and the oldest major stadium in the world (Bramall Lane), football matches were played there from 1862. South Yorshire (Sheffield) is a traditional football area where as West Yorkshire (Leeds) is the traditional rugby area. I suppose its jealousy because Leeds United have achieved more in a glorious 20 year spell than either of the Sheffield clubs in their history. The fact is that a single Sheffield club would get average attendances of 70,000. Leeds United even with their massive potential could never get even 50,000 average gates. Leeds rugby team get 20,000 attendances whereas the Sheffield rubgy team get 500 average attendances, no one is interested in rubgy is Sheffield. Unlike in Leeds my city is obsessed with football.
And what happens when Roman isn't there anymore? Do they revert to being west London's West Ham, a few seasons in the Prem then a few in the Colaship with an occaisional cup final being the highest they're likely to acheive? BTW, I know there was nothing on yesterday's match at Pride Park, but Leeds looked like a pub team in a Leeds away strip. You've got big problems at Elland Road.
That's the fascinating thing, innit? Depends when he leaves. If he does it before they hit their own (apparently malleable) target for becoming financially self-sufficient, then they're stuffed. The only way forward would be to downsize squad, wage bill and hope that their commercial activities will keep them going whilst their playing squad adjusts to more straitened circumstances. If, however, he stays (in whatever capacity, it's entirely conceivable he may "leave" in the sense of ending his role as official owner and/or active involvement in the running of the club, but remain as the financial mainstay) and they get to a point where they can sustain their huge costs by their own income, then there's no reason to foresee a collapse of any kind, let alone one as dramatic as that experienced at Leeds.
It makes sense for Leeds to play the reserves. There is nothing to gain from this match, and you don't want to risk your top players who will either help rebuild or be sold off this summer.
i think in 15 years (realistically) that leeds will make it back to the premiership.. kinda sad that they were in the playoffs last year and relegated this year... is the new owner very wealthy?
Going into administration two daysbefore the end of the season and after already being religated will help.
Hmmm. Not one mention that the only reason we went into administration was a certain cockney dwarf and his monster agent applied for it because we had the temerity to fire the dwarf for punching a sleeping teammate on a preseason tour....... Also- Try and get your facts right. The new stadium was already built. We tried to sell the players including Izzet, Walker and Elliott. Unfortunately nobody wanted to buy them due to the salaries they were on. Oh and we still have the debt. Funny how no-one mentions that Ipswich did exactly the same thing voluntarily............whereas we were put into administration by a high court judge.
Leeds still has an amazing youth system, one of the best in England I would say. I trained under their youth director, Andy Wood, and he said that even now, their youth system is just as good as the ones like Manchester United or Liverpool. That might've been biased, but when they stop paying for Johnny Giles and Eric Cantona, they'll be class once again.
Last night Yeovil thumped them 5-2 at the City ground, leaving them in League One for the 3rd season in a row. Calderwood only has himself to blame with his idiotic mind games, and during the season they slipped up only twice when it mattered and both times Bristol City took advantage. But nobody could tell last night was going to happen at all.
People in Kansas City hate people from Leeds? Seems a bit off, that. I doubt people in Leeds have any strong feeling either way about people in Kansas City. What have they ever done to you?
FCUM fans are Manchester United fans they just want to watch football at a affordable price and where they can sing and stand without getting yelled to sit down or stop singing by a day tripper.
