Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media What point was that idiot trying to make by asking that question?
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media I was wondering why the energy sec didn't ask him "what the hell stupid point are you trying to make"
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media I'm not sure, but there is a Republican meme that oil ("Abiotic Oil") does not come from compressed vegetation over millions of years, but is magically created by the planet and flows around and will never run dry. People who believe in this theory generally feel that "Peak Oil," or the idea that oil might actually run out, is a liberal scare tactic used to increase the cost of oil so that they can ram through policies on fuel use and global warming. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_origin By asking a question like, "where does oil come from," Mr. Barton might have been able to bring up the Abiotic Oil idea to prove that, like evolution, the age of the Earth, and global warming, there are .0001% of scientists that disagree with current government policy.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media He's a scientist, he just went into "Mr. Wizard" mode. "Well, Joey...." I wondered if his point had something to do with global warming, but it was hard to tell the context. Whatever it was it just sounded like an extremely dull grinded axe.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media Who cares? Do you believe that Michael Steele is a racist?
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/16/tennessee-gop-staffer-ema_n_216085.html Sherri Goforth, an executive assistant for Tennessee State Rep. Diane Black (R-Gallatin), sent this picture out to other legislative staffers: Goforth admitted to sending the email, but she apologized only for sending it to the wrong people. "I went on the wrong email and I inadvertently hit the wrong button," Goforth said. "I'm very sick about it, and it's one of those things I can't change or take back."
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media gotta admit... the extra wide picture of W to show cheney leering at him is pretty funny
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media Do you fail to believe that: (1)the GOP is socioculturally the party of white America at a time when white America is diminishing? (2) A Southern strategy exists, RIGHT NOW, and that it was - and IS - designed to capitalize on Southern whites’ disapproval of the Civil Rights Act, minority progress, diversimilarity as a human rights principle and general anti-black sentiment, AND that the Republicans for 45 years have been actively recruiting racists into their ever-shrinking political tent? Do you remember that there was a time when an active member and current-on-my-dues leader of the KKK vied for the GOP nomination? Do you remember Reagan, Lott and BJU? BTW, where did Reagan declare his bid to become POTUS? Why? What happened on the parade route? In 1967, a racist who woud become a VA governor wore a Confederate flag pin for his high school senior class photo; in 1993, his first statewide TV campaign ad for governor included a Confederate flag, and in 2006 he, rightly, macaca-ed his way off our potential-POTUS stage...committed Republican, wrapped, and rapt, in an embrace of a flag that represented and symbolized, first and foremost, everything VP Alexander H. Stevens said in his "Cornerstone Address." Racist. Which U.S. Senator, from which party, called Black people "darkies," Hispanics "****************" and said that African heads of state left their nations and came ot places like the UN to "get a square meal instead of eating each other?" Too easy. Do you quite simply understand that the GOP, because it works to hold tight to a diminishing movement with discredited ideas in a relevant space numerically, has located southern strategic racism NEVER as a sideshow, but as their intended policy and their fundamental political ideology? And because the GOP HAVE been led by the nose by a "just hold the party together" sentiment and the racism that gets to have a say in such a compromise, we wil lcontinueto see what we've seen... They can't go forth from Goforth: that's who they are, apologists for submitting racism in the wrong WAY, to the wrong PEOPLE, but NOT for the racism itself. And for Steele, you, or anyone else who is committed to this party without redressing that, without examining its INSTITUIONAL commitment to Southern strategic racism, you are ultimately deluding yourself while the discourse eventually passes you by, or, through your commitment to more and more idiotic folks on the margins of human discourse, becomes absurd, funny and pathetic. Oops... we're already there.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media Have you ever contributed to a discussion without pointlessly blathering about for 20 minutes before you get to your point?
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media http://search.twitter.com/search?q=petehoekstra Hours of fun. Literally.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media It is. But GOP operatives emailing it to each other is not funny.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media Actually, it's not. The concept is kind of funny, but the execution is poor. It sounded funnier when I heard it described.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media At any moment there is a shoreline between social progress and entrenching the status quo. There is always an isue on that beach. There is always a faction resisting the expansion of inclusion. There was a faction adamantly opposed to Womens suffrage. There was a faction adamantly opposed to desegregation. There was a faction adamantly opposed to the Voting Rights Act. There is a faction adamantly opposed to Hate Crime legislation. Other examples are rife. In todays spectrum, those people are Republicans.
Re: Why the Repubilcans shouldn't use new media @petehoekstra I watched Brazil beat the USA in a soccer game yesterday. It felt just like being on the USS Arizona on 12/7/1941
