interesting look at various state stereotypes as defined by Google auto complete. most are not very flattering, but I'm pretty happy with Colorado's... http://www.theatlantic.com/technolo...nted-the-us-according-to-autocomplete/283356/
Good questions about Iowa and Indiana, you would think their voting patters would be the opposite. Plus when the Liberal East cost and great Lakes States of America split from the south we need Indiana, and can do with out Iowa in exchange if needed.
a little surprised that Wisconsin came out as "liberal." and none of the Southern states came out as "fat."
and the follow-on - if you're from Europe at lease. why is your country so _________? http://www.theatlantic.com/business...-why-post-communist-europe-is-so-poor/283393/
Got me. But I know why Iceland is so peaceful. Sex, sex, and sex. The average Icelander starts at age 15 -- the youngest in the world. Make love not crime. India, on the other hand, is notably late -- almost 20. Which maybe answers that question from other thread about WTF is wrong with India and its gang rapes.
does anyone know what Google auto completes are based on? is it frequency of searches for that particular thing or something else? is it just random? some of these do seem rather random, and some just seem lazy.
I'm not so sure Southerners are that much* fatter than residents of the other flyover states. Just tagged with the label because we (they, actually) fit so many of the other negative stereotypes about Americans. * yeah, I know there's some diff. Just not as much as is made out.
Well is not like we here in the midwest can point fingers, but... I will give you than from 20% (lowest) to 34% (highest) is not a huge difference; we are after all the second fattest country in the world.
This. The difference between 19.8 and 34.4 isn't noteworthy, especially when Coloradans are responsible for more obesity overall than Mississippi. And once the junk food surge gets going in CO, they'll increase
hey, we can't help that they attached part of Kansas to our state when they drew the boarder. without western Kansas, I'm sure the obesity rate would be below 10%
I wonder if anyone ever does a graph of states to indicate places where people are too skinny? Especially women- a "She has no hips/ass/thighs" kinda graph.
probably not, but a friend of mine posted some meme on her facebook page about how society considers it taboo to speak about fat people or about people's weight (if they are overweight), but it was okay to tell a skinny person that she needs to put some weight on or eat a cheeseburger or two. I don't know, skinniness doesn't seem to be a problem in our society. that probably accounts for the lack of people's preoccupation with the issue.
I get that. Fat genes are probably tough to deal with, but starving yourself to reach that "optimum" CK commercial weight is a deliberate act. Then again, maybe some skinny people are skinny because of genes. I couldn't break 160 until I was 35 years old, and I'm only 185 now (I'm a Donald Trump hair under 6'). They're preoccupied, all right- with being skinny. I think that's the diffy.
