Don't they disable it every so often when they want to do maintenance? I'm not sure but I thought I remembered reading somewhere its part of 'limited running' during partial downtime to prevent things slowing up too much.
i was wondering the other day what they might be getting rid of for the world cup slim the sight down a bit
Several month ago we told you we separated search from the rest of the DB, so that (a) if search load goes up it won't disable the site and (b) we can do maintenance work on it without affecting the rest of the site. Last night we were upgrading the search server in prep for the WC. It was supposed to take 30 mins but something went wrong. It came back on in a few hours.
Search isn't working again for me. Well, at least when I go to a poster's public profile and click on "find all posts by this user", it tells me that searching is disabled.
"search" is f'd up. Most of the time it doesn't work and when/if it works, it takes a while...a long while. PS: will "quick edit" option ever come back?
Jesse, thanks for the info. Better to get the kinks out now as opposed to 5 weeks from now. Unlike the launch of the new NE Revolution website.
The search server was having some problems with it's synching to the main DB. We had to turn it off while we fixed it. It should be working now. Let us know if it's not.
