It actually happened with Shane Long, now at WBA, He grew up playing Hurling, and only switched to football at about 16. That said, it's extremely unlikely that he'd never played football before. He just didn't play it seriously.
I thought it was Ironic that one of the guys calling soccer gay in the comments named himself after Chicharito.
I have noticed over the last 3/4 years that soccer bashing has slowed down very much. But the bashing of other sports by soccer fans has picked up.
I honestly don't understand this either. I am American born and raised and I absolutely love soccer. The thing is I like a lot of sports, soccer, basketball, football, tennis, golf, even baseball and hockey to the very slightest extent. But soccer is my favorite hands down. My brother is one of those people that you're talking about. He says it's for girls, for guys who weren't tough enough to play football or is a 'foreigner' sport. He also says things like it's un-american as you can draw a soccer match because in America, there are no ties, only winners, and losers. I just don't get it, sometimes it even drives somewhat of an inner hatred in me of football even though I do genuinely enjoy the sport because football is the main reason for soccer's bad rep
But even though you have your opinion on that, who cares? My philosophy is why not let people enjoy what they enjoy? Nobody needs to go saying Nascar and F1 sucks, Soccer is for girls etc... Just watch the sports you want to watch, play the sports you want to play and let everyone else do the same.
