Why doesn't Altidore sing the national anthem or put his hand on his heart?

Perhaps he feels that "America the Beautiful" is a superior song.

 

When did putting your hand on your heart become a part of singing or listening to the national anthem? I remember a time when your hand on your heart was only associated with the pledge of allegiance.

Any sport that are not directly associated with a USA national team perhaps, but to scream NONE means that you are wrong.
