What kind of message does that send to the rest of country. Everyone else is singing or has their hand on their heart. I understand he's proud of his Hatian heritage but that doesn't mean you disrespect the U.S. And his maturity level is like that of a little child. He puts all this time and effort with that dumb stanky-leg goal celebration yet he won't put his hand on his heart.
I agree. You should do one or the other. But one cool thing they started this year is the hand on shoulder. I like that. But overall it's more of an annoyance, kind of like listening to Harkes. I deal with it and move on.
yeah, this seems like a major issue. maybe we should force all of our players to do some kind of salute? that worked well for the nazis.
While we're at it... Why does Robbie Findley close his eyes during the National Anthem? Hell, thats about the same as just turning your back to the flag and lighting it on fire...
Anxiety. People are looking for any and every reason for why Altidore has yet to score in this World Cup. Look on the bright side. We could be the English.....or the French.
Why doesn't he wear a flag pin on his jersey and end every interview with the phrase "... and may God bless America"? More importantly, does he have a "Support the troops" bumper sticker on his car?
I heard someone tied a yellow ribbon around the tree in front of his flat in Leeds and he didn't like it being there.
And yet you name yourself in honor of a team in North London. I see what's going on here. Here's another fun question! Why can't I jump through the internet and punch you in the side of the neck and make you crap your pants?
maybe he sings very badly and he's ashamed of his voice and doesn't want to degrade the verse by his terrible tone.
personally I'm upset he didn't wear his Haiti wristband to the England game. Clearly if he had been doing all that he could have been doing to channel the spirit of Joe Gaetjens his shot would have gone in instead of off the post.
I understand the stupid English get upset when people don't sing the anthem but that's just not our culture. I don't know what rock you've been living under but go watch any of our sports. NONE of the players sing the anthem. NONE of the crowd sings the anthem.
We sing the National Anthem, but then again, it was written only a few miles from our home bar. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQCa323sW3o&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube- Slainte USA vs. England 2010 World Cup[/ame]
Did not. I was responding to the comment above, where the poster specifically said "NONE of the crowd sings the anthem." I have no problem with Jozy not singing, or Findley closing his eyes. A player, or a person or a general can chose to sing or not, to look at the flag or not. Perhaps rather than singing, Jozy listens to the words and reflects internally, perhaps Findley is visualizing and reflecting on the meaning. I am fine with whatever motivates them. To think that either is un-American or disrespectful is a pretty powerful judgment against two people representing our country.
This discussion is f*cking stupid, just like the " it's disrespectful to wear a flag on your body " threads... grow the f*ck up... this is America. The reason why i LOVE the US.. is that i don't have to do anything I don't want to do... if you don't want to say the pledge, god bless you.. it's your choice...that's what makes this country great.
Context is overrated. I don't know what rock you've been living under but go watch any of our sports. NONE of the players sing the anthem. NONE of the crowd sings the anthem.
Maybe he just doen't know the national anthem, it is not like we sing it all the time in school and stuff, plus players are probably looking around to find the girls they are going to sleep with after the game at that moment.
