------------------------------------------- With so much stuff being streamed now a day, I think we are in a good place that 3 different networks are paying MLS to show over the air (even if it is cable - satellite). Yeh, regular over the air network would be nice, but we still aren't the NFL. Used to like Fox Soccer Channel, especially the highlights and news around the world. Still think MLS needs a highlight show somewhere..
No media coverage of it yet as far as I'm aware. I know people who work in the hotel where the meeting was held and are soccer fans
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local...e_dda8b616-db88-5abb-b716-bc0b04731fef.html#1 TLDR: St. Louis still lacks corporate support MLS is looking for (Jersey sponsor / Stadium name sponsor) and Garber was in town to do a checkup on their progress and entice investors.
WRONG!!!!! San Jose vs. New York Redbulls WRONG!!!! Regularly schedule television broadcasts began in 1939. Year 24 in MLB, NHL, NFL and NBA? Year started 1903 (MLB) year 24 would be 1927 (so in this case 45 years) 1948 Year started 1924 (NHL) year 24 would be 1948 Year started 1949 (NBA) year 24 would be 1974 Year started 1966 (NFL) year 24 would be 1990 % of games on National TV NFL 49 out of 256 games 19.1% MLS 65 out of 408 games 15.9% (19.4% if you count Univision) NBA 167 out 1,230 games 13.6% NHL 109 out of 1,271 games 8.6% MLB 180 out of 2,420 games 7.4% They have. 2012-2014 NBC, NBCSN, ESPN, ESPN2 and Univision 2015-present FOX, FS1, ESPN, ESPN2 and Univision and fees have been going up every time the contract is renewed
So if MLB started in 1903 and year 24 was 1927, television wasn't aro If MLB started in 1903 then 24 years would be 1928. In 1948 there wasn't much of anything on television because television was a new technology. MLS came into being when television is omnipresent. So not exactly apples to apples. The NFL also came into being in 1920 not 1966. Not sure why you picked 1966. So 24 years from 1920 is 1945. I don't believe without looking it up if the NFL continued during the war. Very few games on television then so again not apples to apples. Could you post links where you got your info for the NBA and NHL. Thanks.
Univision is often very slow to release programming information. Your channel guide is going by what Univision is distributing. It will probably change at some point this week. The MLS game will be on Univision on Saturday afternoon.
Are you a troll or just ignorant? This is a serious question. Since you obviously loathe MLS quite a bit, I wonder why you are wasting your brainpower on this forum. This thread is dedicated to speculating about the expansion of MLS, yet you are here slamming any positive thing that is said about the league. If this league is not credible, if this league is not demonstrating accountability, and if this league is not consistent in your view, then why are you here wasting your time and our time? Nobody is forcing you to stay; you are not adding anything new to the discussion. Why not leave and let us "MLS fanboys" (as you so eloquently put it) continue to speculate about our domestic top tier league?
I enjoy watching the league in between EURO seasons. It would be fun to have a team close to go to a few games. I have been to about 25 games overseas. Most recently in October Tottenham vs Cardiff City. Can't always go to Europe so again it would be fun to have a major league team to go and watch. It drives me crazy when people who want MLS in my town to say it HAS to be a SSS downtown. I bring up Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, etc and I am called a troll because I don't blindly follow the religion of Don Garber. Asking questions is a GOOD thing. Just following blindly is not. Somebody posted in this thread that MLS has never been consistent and I believe release the rules for the season the day before the season opened. Nobody challenged that. Nobody said they should be consistent.
You're the one that said their was NO television. I went with 1966, because that was when AFL and NFL merged. Well, then back then NHL & MLB didn't have to compete with much, unlike today there's 100's of programming. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hockey_League https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Basketball_Association
The AFL and No television where? The NFL started in 1920 so to compare apples to apples don't you have to start then? The merger was announced in 1966. The league's technically weren't joined until 1970 when the league schedules were merged. I looked at your Wikepedia pages and were unable to find the information you posted. Wikipedia is a horribly unreliable source.
OK, 1920. So in the 24th year would make it year 1944. How many games were on TV? I used Wikipedia to find out the first year the league's started and used google to find out how many games were on TV.
I guess we now know who is not next, Indy Eleven. https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...on-may-leave-indy-eleven-out-cold/3143151002/
Oh, I few more fun facts for you Lothsor In the leagues 24th season. MLB (1927)- 16 teams with a regular season average of 8k NHL (1948)- 6 teams with a regular season average 14k NBA (1974)- 17 teams with a regular season average 8.5k NFL (1944)- 10 teams with a regular season average of 24k MLS (2019)- 24 teams with a regular season average of 22K* *-just a prediction, we averaged 21,873 last year.
MOD NOTE: This thread is about the next expansion teams. Not about how MLS compares to other leagues, etc. Please stay on topic.
================ I see TV as 3 levels > Over the air on one of the 4 majors. > Cable >Streaming. ------------- I grew up in the era of the big sports were over the air. I have now morphed into the majority is on cable. Streaming is a trend that the league appears to recognize and I think that slice will get bigger. There will be some areas of the country where some folks won't get some of the options, so the more options the better. Radio anyone ?
So yeah, to get this back on track. I look at Indy, Louisville and Raliegh just to name a few. Surely such investments in SSS are predicated on EVENTUALLY getting into MLS, right? As much as the USL is good for small to midsize markets. It seems to be a perpetual money loser at the club level. Also can someone point to me some OFFICIAL communique about how its impossible that San Antonio will ever get in? There's about 70 miles between them and they are both separate tv markets that are growing like weeds. Sure Austin is in there, but that's like Orioles owner Peter Angelo's argument that letting MLB back in Washington would destroy the O's fan base.
