My only concern with Horizon is this: How is MLS with having regional sponsors? I live near Pittsburgh, so my closest two MLS teams are DCU and CC, neither of which have Horizon in their respective markets.
OK so where does NWA hub out of? I always thought it was in either Washington, Oregon, or Northern CA. BMO is definitely regional. That would definitely look great on a kit, the question is does a regional airline have the money to sponsor even an MLS team in this economic climate.
As I just moved from Minneapolis, I can tell you that NWA had their main corporate offices in the Twin Cities. However, NWA was bought out by Delta(?) and was consolidating their offices somewhere down south. As for a cool sponsor, if Vestas (the wind turbine company) ever decides to bring a regional office to Portland as has been in the works, I though they would be cool to have on the front of a jersey. Cool logo for sure:
Their American Division (Harris Bank) is regional. But BMO is one of the largest Banks in Canada and operates in Several Countries.
So, I was watching the USOC match between the Timbers and Sounders. Toyota on the front, which apparently would violate some rule on competing companies as sponsors (enter VW for DCU). But Cricket is on the shirttail. I wonder how viable this company is. I'm not keen on cellphones, iPods, or any other small computerized gadgets, so I'm an idiot with this sort of stuff. But I hadn't heard the Cricket name in a while. Is this company still on stable footing? I do like their logo, but it looks not so great in the white box you have on the tail. Would one of you artistes like to make a mockup of Cricket on the front (posting to some other thread that has more artwork, if you need to)?
Isn't Cricket the phone for old people? Big buttons, loud speaker, etc. EDIT: Actually, nevermind. That's Jitterbug. Heh. It's an insect, I was close.
Cricket doesn't appear to be a national company. Seems to focus mostly on "smaller" markets. So probably wouldn't be a good sponsor for a MLS squad unless they are planning on a major expansion. http://www.mycricket.com/cricketcoveragemaps/
Well if they have 15 mil in disposeable income for three years, then they could do worse as far as getting their names out there. Besides broadband is a booming industry.
Have you seen Weyrhauser's performance in the last few years? They are losing their shorts right now. I doubt they could afford to be the Timbers' sponsor right now.
By selling every asset they can? Too bad the Federal Way, WA based Weyerhaeuser bought out Oregon's Willamette. I kid, but, other than Roseburg FP, does Weyco have much in Oregon any more? How about Hampton Lumber? They're Portland based. Of course, they don't have any money right now... Stumptown Coffee? Ace Hotel?
They don't have to be Oregon based, so not sure why people think they need to be. Most shirt sponsors are going to be national brands. Microsoft throwing down money for the Sounders sponsor is an exception, not the rule for sponsors. So a Starbucks, Costco, or REI sponsor wouldn't be too far off the mark.
