Comparing you guys to Poland was actually wrong. There ranked way to high. Based on the rankings you guys are more like Wales.

There was a huge difference between Conte and Ventura.

All kidding aside, I think any self-respecting German would have rather stayed home than been humiliated the way they were vs Mexico and S. Korea. That said, their main stars now will all be past their prime by the next World Cup with the exception maybe of Kroos if he conditions himself well.

Looking at the Euro qualifiers so far, either Mancini is a genius or Ventura was a highly incompetent manager.

They have different teams and systems, and Ventura was definitely incompetent. Insigne being put in when you're chasing a game to sit in front of the defense? De Rossi to hold the ball when you need a goal?

    Idiot.

Exactly! This brings me back to my initial point. Why couldn't Ventura have done this?

Either stupid or sabotaged the team. You can't do the things he did without one or the other in place.

Mancini announced that he will step-down as Italy CT at the end of the 2022 after the WC (assuming Italy qualifies!).

The new coach will obviously have to be hired in June 2022 because they cannot work in club soccer the following season because they would begin their mandate on the NT bench in January 2023. Their first games would be euro2024 qualifiers in March 2023.

I hope the next CT is either Sarri or Ancelotti. I think the likes of Gasperini would be too risky because they seem closer to Ventura than coaches used to be being at bigger clubs.

Sarri? Please No, Gasperini honestly would not be a bad idea. I really think that Gasperini has impressed.

In all honesty Ventura was never a good hire at all. What did he ever do that was impressive. He was the coach of Torino, and as soon as he stepped down and Mihaljovic took over, Torino really improved. Ventura is a horrible manager all around. Gasperini is really impressive. He did a lot with Atalanta, and also was impressive back when he managed Palermo too.

There are rumors linking Mancini to Juventus. He could be gone after the Euros for all anyone knows.

Ventura rebirthed the 4-2-4 formation which influenced a lot of managers like Ranieri who implemented more or less the same system to win the EPL with Leicester in 2016. His ideas obviously left a big impression on his fellow coaches. He also had a very good personal relationship with players like Immobile, Bonucci, etc. Plus, he and Conte came to define the 3-5-2 system that Italy were employing at the time. He had his merits, but he was not the right man to lead Italy. He never managed a top club. It was too big a step for him. Torino was his level, not Italy.
