Glenn used to have roles at Walkers and McVities. Maybe he needed to interview a certain someone as a thank you for helping to keep sales up during the recession -
yeah , they never appoint anyone with football knowledge.. unless its some clown yes-man like Brooking .
I'm going to have to stop watching Martin Glenn interviews. Just now he said again 'We are looking for the best man for the job.' No query by the interviewer of the fact that those interviewed so far for the job have never won anything of any worth at the top level in club football management. 'Alot of things went well at the tournament before the Iceland game.' Interviewer doesn't even question that comment again. Talking about trying to embed what we are doing at youth levels into the senior set up. Points to how well the U19's are doing at present. Has he seen how they are actually playing under Boothroyd? What are we embedding from that? Merely the talent of the players? I was all for the idea of embedding a philosophy and a certain approach but now feel it's used too much as another excuse to cover up poor decisions.
Just seeing his face winds me up. Just looks like a dopey annoying twat.. looks like the kind of person who shouldnt get a bigger job than a supermarket supervisor. when the next manager flops ,will he appear to explain everything?? doubt it ! from the moment he appeared in the press conference saying "im not a football expert".. his credibility was dead .
Yep. If he's not a football expert, he shouldn't be undertaking this task. The fact that Jurgen Klinsmann and Steve Bruce are in the final four, is a very damning scenario. In fact, the presence of Klinsmann is most damning of all because it shows that we aren't going on the strict principle of appointing an English manager. If we were, then Allardyce makes sense as being under strong consideration. If you're going to throw just one foreign manager into the mix, there's very little justification for that guy being Klinsmann, especially when the likes of Blanc and Hiddink are potentially available.
The interview, particularly the lack of follow-up questions on most of the claims being made, was depressing and encapsulated pretty much what is wrong with the FA.
I hope they stick to this incentive related wage package they were talking about earlier, he really has to earn his victories if he is to be England manager. It shouldn't cost an excessive amount of money if need to part ways if things go awry too.
Some of the stuff they are asking of Allardyce is weird. It's like they want him to be a Director of Football as well? Glenn say's this "I want someone to come in to the England role to really work with not just the senior team but to make sure all the great work with the Under-16s, 17s, 18s - look at how well the Under-19s are doing now - and to knit all that together." 'We want someone to do a great job for the England national team but as well make sure all the development teams are laddering up to something more effective.' Hmmm doesn't that undermine Matt Crocker a bit? Bearing in mind he knows he the heck and wtf he does. I wouldn't want Allardyce near the development teams.
The dopey cvnt Glenn is acting like they done a "big search" and considered all options... they just hired the first guy who came along.
So, a playing philosophy which runs through all the age groups, eh? Not a bad idea but exactly whose philosophy is the $64 dollar question. Presumably there will be more dialogue between the manager of the senior team on the one hand and the other coaches on the other. What if they don't agree?
I think it's just the usual twaddle they spew out to make it look like the seniors are linked to the rest of the set up. I think they said similar about Hodgson when he stepped in. Who can also forget Pearce joining the seniors under Capello to create a link to the U21's. Then it leaked out that they were just talking Italian around him
The West Ham squad is arguably the strongest team he had access to. He did OK but nothing to write home about..
This has actually been the approach of many successful systems for a while now. Germany & Uruguay revamped their systems using that approach. Spain kinda had it via Barcelona's set-up. Holland somewhat pioneered it. However, I don't have faith in the FA to implement such a system. It sounds like the "root and branch" platitudes they were guffing out, while sending Trevor Brooking on a tour of training grounds. In fact, if they're looking to Allardyce to do any kind of revamping, what does that say about the supposed one we just did, when we came up with the EPPP? I swear we just throw sh1t at the wall and hope something sticks. However,
