Apparently we're linked with League 2 striker Paul Collins: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11760_5421780,00.html http://www.skysports.com/football/player/0,19754,11744_39172,00.html Per Sky Sports he's a 30 year old ex-Stoke striker. I don't find him on Soccerbase or in Football Manager (which actually has AJ in it), so I have no basis for comparison on skills. Still, another striker couldn't hurt.
Well. I guess. I wonder if the money wouldn't be better spent (not that I have any idea how much that might be) trying to lure Tintin back.
Yeah, but I think that ship has sailed. I'm not saying Tintin wasn't good, but I think he's assumed the proportions of the backup quarterback with us - the great savior who's just around the corner. He's a good player, don't get me wrong, but I think we have to move on from him.
From Twitter: Garth Lagerwey announces that DF David Horst has been loaned to USL Div. I Austin Aztex for remainder of 2009 season.
Yup. I think they had been trying, but the quality that we can "buy" right now isn't very good. Its better to pick up some 2nd or 3rd string MLSer than some untried college kid, imo.
It appears Paul Connor is out of the running for the Aztex. Sky Sports confirmed his move to League 2's Lincoln City on a one year deal. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11750_5448335,00.html
Unless he gets sold on to Europe. I guess that would be another reason to sign someone to a multi-year deal -- to collect a transfer fee. Still, I suppose that would only be after next season.
wow thats awesome! now why couldnt we keep him?, he'd do alot better than (Gifton, and Kyle) up front
Well, I have to say he would've definitely been better than Kyle. And better than an absent Gifton, but I don't know if he's better than a fit and in-game Gifton. He's a very different player, so I'm not sure they can be compared. Now, Tintin working off Gifton... that would be nice. Ah, dreams of never-was.
Yeah definitely Kyle sucked ass this season, but i guess he wasnt expecting to have a good first season considering the Aztex are the newborns in the USL. Hopefully next season will be so much better. The injuries is what hurt us, as you mentioned with Gifton
Better yet, here's the plan: I'll kidnap & tied Kyle Brown down, put him in a sealed box with the message "Return the sender. Address unknown", and mail him back to New England. You get Jamie from N.C. to here, get a wig similar to Kyle's hair, send him to the Aztex team and pretend he's Kyle Brown. Adrian Heath won't know the difference.
Speaking of Jamie, here's an ESPN article on Jamie Watson and Aztex U-23 Kyle Helton The 2003 U-17s: Where are they now? EDIT: The article is from April.
I would suggest that everyone watch the Aztex website tomorrow, as rumor has it there will be a very interesting announcement. Spread the word, as it's going to be great news!!
Hmm, does posting that to the "Who could/should we pick up?" thread give us a hint...? We're getting Rafa as manager, aren't we?
Okay, don't tell anyone, TwoMeters. The secret is that the Aztex have signed Joleon Lescott (formerly of Everton) to a 2 year contract. The press mentions of Lescott going to Man City for 24m quid was a ruse by Everton boss David Moyes to keep attention off of the real deal. Lescott was heard saying that he'd wanted to live in Austin for years, and felt this was the best opportunity to fulfill a life long dream, while helping shore up the Aztex back line. Word is that Adrian Heath, Everton FA hero, is being touted in the EPL as pulling off the greatest switch in the history of the league. Details of the transfer haven't been released as of 10:30, but rumor has it that it involves a small cash fee, plus the promise of weekly deliveries of breakfast tacos from "Taco Shack" and cases of Lone Star to Moyes' home address. When asked about this coup from the competitive tier 1 football league in the US, Don Garber (MLS Commissioner) was quoted as saying, "Who's this Lescott character?" Remember, shhhh.
