loosing yordy reyna for this big game vs seattle is a significant blow to the Caps

it has to help seattle take the points- last time the sounders were here at bc place it was the classic playoff dud where we didnt even have a shot on goal

hoping for a better- not bitter- showing

I think that the Caps will come up with a really good effort, rise to the occasion, and take all the points. The only problem here is that they are not playing the worst team in the league like their last two matches. However, Seattle is overdue for a loss and I think this will be the weekend for it.

Would be very disappointed to see a poor effort in this one.

We stopped Portland's run of 15 undefeated in THEIR HOUSE. Now we can rub salt in a wound of another Cascadia rival. I say we will find a way to stop the Flounders streak.

I hope you guys are right. I spent too much time geeking out and connecting the dots with Carls international signings and Baldwin and it was not a pleasant result.. lol Let's have an awesome game tonight, can't wait to be there!!!!

It should be a good match for the home side tonight. It would change my opinion that Robbo's past his due date here, but it seems like signs here are pointed towards a strong effort and a home team win.

Well that sucks. Played good, in fact better than Seattle, and had more chances but one horrible giveaway and we are down 2-0. Against teams like San Jose you can come back but like I said after that game you can't spot good teams a 2 goal lead and win.

Only good news was Portland lost and RSL tied so still not out of it but our schedule from here on in doesn't get any easier.

They rode their luck last season but got the breaks and the results went their way, until they faced this opponent in the playoffs. I can remember this same fixture last year and the Caps being outplayed throughout but getting a point out of it What goes around, comes around.

It was quite a reminder of Carl's performance when watching the workout at half time. Over 2 million in salary cap money was being burned by players not good enough to be in the starting 11. We may want ownership to buck up, but until we get a better manager of the salary cap and MLS monies, it would be a waste.

This may have been Carl's worst year for international player signings. The cherry on top is bringing in a trialist during your playoff drive.

as i said prior to the game, loosing yordy reyna was a BIG loss- his presence would have- IMO- turned the result around

mezquida gave 100%, as he always does- but his missed opportunities by either poor shooting or waiting too long to shoot illustrates the difference between the 2 players

the Caps gave 100% and should have had at least a tie

25-30% of the salary budget from MLS sat on the bench or in the rafters- its obvious that carl is done with juarez (an embarrassment of a signing) and blondell (not up to MLS quality); mutch looks like he is going on 34, yet is only 26; and shea is a good sub but vastly overpaid-- add these salaries to the 2019 team signings and things will look a lot rosier if done with expertise- the foolish signing of marvin emnes- even for a small sum of money- shows that the coach has not learned from his past mistakes

but it was an entertaining game- a home loss or tie to dallas will make the playoffs too distant and we all can hope that major changes happen by the end of this year

a committment from the owners to spend $2-3 mill USD beyond the MLS cap, a new coaching staff with expertise in knowing quality and a FO that holds people accountable for the new signings will bring the potential to fill the lower bowl on a regular basis

i am tired of 'mediocrity is our mantra' from this club

Yet, I think Reyna has shown to be a streaky player. If things are rolling in a positive way, he's a world beater. If things aren't going well and he's getting closed down by two or three opponents when he's carrying the ball too long in midfield, he gets frustrated and then he either switches off/gives up with no hustle or he gets angry and takes a stupid foul that leads to a booking.

i'm wondering if the Caps interim coach, craig dalrymple, will play their new signing, marvin emnes, who hasnt played a serious game of soccer for the past 10 months

if he does, craig is as half-baked as robo and it will be another middle finger to the club's supporters that really nothing has changed

but what i am most wondering about is the players' committment to the game- players like kendall waston are royally pissed that robo was fired- my guess is that kendall will give 100%; what erratic players like yordy reyna and cristian techera will play like is a side feature of the game in LA

Emnes was brought in as a short-term cover for Ibini leaving. He wasn't brought in as a starter or future star. He is insurance if there were injuries while taking a long shot that he might be something more. If not, he is gone in a couple of months with little expenditure. Why get all excited about it? Just who do you think they can sign at this time of year?

We will see how players react while there is still a chance of getting into playoffs. I would say that the FO basically wrote off any chance for this year with search and hiring of a new coach as the top priority. Players feel that.

You are falling for the spin Chris.

He is a trialist. He is in no condition to be a meaningful roster player at this time. The optics and message of doing trials during the playoff push? Unless you have a bunch of injuries, he would be taking playing time from someone who earned it (Say Hurtado).

he also was represented by an agent who worked with David Baldwin at BASE and they both formed their new agencies in the same week last January. This is pretty apparent to have been Carl helping his friend get a paycheck for someone represented by an associate. And considering this happened shortly after the tip of the Baldwin iceberg was talked about (and it was just a tip), it was a middle finger to everyone who was questioning that relationship.

Not the right thing to be doing when the season is on the line.

Not sure how the whole team will react, but there is certainly the potential for a negative, uninspired, "mailed in" performance. Personally, from a supporters standpoint, if I see a "quitter" type of effort out there from a few guys, I'll be hoping the door does indeed hit their asses on the way out. No one's untouchable.

Well they didn't mail it in but poor outing. Nerwinski jumps up and falls victim to a simple give and go for the first goal. Henry & deJong take turns hacking someone in the box. Teibert gets off the wimpiest shot from a great setup. Our keeper dives out of the way of a Zlatan shot. Sigh. What a poor night.

We need a lot of things and I would start with a DM. Nobody is getting it done in the middle of the park. We need some serious help for the CBs and Aly sure ain't it and neither is anyone else we have on the team.

let the rebuild begin- we need 4 significant players- goalie, CB, MF specialist, dangerous striker to complement kamara and replace davies

This franchise almost needs to be folded and re opened as an expansion team with a new owner, new academy, new FO, and a full 30 open spots to start getting players. This is more than just a construction project, this needs a full demolition.

It's tough to watch. I hope the new coach can clean out as much of the mess as possible.

I don't think we need to throw out everything and apply for expansion status. As tempting as that is they won't let us :(
We have some good and some bad and our only great is leaving.

    Players I would keep:
    Keeper: Stefan Marinović, Sean Melvin
CBs: Kendall Waston, José Aja, Doneil Henry, Aaron Maund
Mids: Yordy Reyna, Cristian Techera, Nicolás Mezquida, Felipe Martins
    FWs: Kei Kamara, Theo Bair

On the bubble (cost too much, not getting it done or just are too mistake prone):
Brek Shea, Jake Nerwinski, Erik Hurtado, Roberto Domínguez, Marcel de Jong, Brett Levis

Get rid of: Efraín Juárez, Brian Rowe, Aly Ghazal, Sean Franklin, Jordon Mutch, Marvin Emnes, Anthony Blondell, Myer Bevan

Virtually free (homegrown players) who need to play at a lower level but may be MLS so loan them out and free up a roster spot:
David Norman Jr, Russell Teibert, Simon Colyn, Spencer Richey, Michael Baldisimo

Marcel deJong should be our lone DM. He can then take people out without giving up PKs (only free kicks) and he is a very tough SOB. His open field defending is very good and his passing forward is excellent.

Here is the big question for the Caps marketing department in dealing with the season ticket buying public: is it best to go full re-build and "blow it up" and rely on the long term patience or do you keep more of the incumbents and work from there? Unless the new coach has a Michael Stahre type of year, the new gaffer is going to have a decent run here to get it right. You probably can get an extra year or two if you stick one year longer with the core because it provides a firewall of sorts(much like a newly elected gov't always blames the previous regime for financial problems and then says more time is needed to sort it out). Hey, most of these guys are Robbo's chicken feathers, according to the new coach: it's going to take more time to get the ingredients for a proper chicken salad.

And with that, and because this is MLS, I think you can avoid the blow up and go with a few key pick ups. I'd seriously think about upgrading the keeper: Marinovic hasn't shown me enough presence back there and his shot stopping rep has taken a hit this season. One of those CBs is probably going. The big money back ups are gone. I'd like to see some better options at FB. I'm on the fence about Reyna but I think at his best he can be a difference maker for this team post-Davies. Is Kamara going to want to stick around for one more year? Is Waston going to force his way out of town? It's going to be an entertaining off season.

i would definitely keep teibert, de jong, nerwinski, kamara, henry, melvin, norman, and waston if he wants to come back- the 3 essentials are kamara, teibert and a waston who wants to stay here

riding the bubble- hurtado, mezquida- as both have contracts ending dec 31

all the others are expendable- trade bait- or should be loaned out, like blondell- juarez should be bought out or loaned out

prediction- this team will need a major overhaul. along with the FO, built-in accountability and 2-3 year goals- throwing money at the wall is a recipe for disaster- it rarely works as we have seen for the past 5 years

PS flying in mr dash, steve nash, was a piss IMO- i want an active owner who understands, respects and honors its market and its supporters

    STIRRING SHYTE:

DC United will have 2 good goalies- ousted and hamid, both signed to december 31, 2019

since marinovic has disappointed most of us, would you like the Caps to go after ousted if he is willing to return for 2019?

In what way shape or form is Teibert essential? He has had 10 years and 3 coaches to claim a starting spot and has not done so. While I love the guy and his work rate he is not essential. He is virtually free as a homegrown so from a salary cap standpoint he is going to be kept but Nico is superior in all regards. To put him in the same category as Waston & Kamara is just not correct. A Laba level player belongs in that group. Teibert is a journeyman level player at best so far in his career.

Ousted is overrated and overpaid. DC went out of their way to bring back Hamid on loan because of a number of abysmal outings Ousted had this year. I would take a cheaper Marinovic than Ousted.

I would keep Teibert as he is Canadian, homegrown and inexpensive but I agree that he is not essential.

I wouldn't bring back Ousted but I would also be moving on from Marinovic or at the very least bring in a bona fide competitor for the Number 1 spot. I've been disappointed in Marinovic and I am left with the impression that his Confederation Cup performances were more a flash in the pan then an indicator of a guy on the rise. Perhaps a different keeper coach can help him get to the next level and fulfill some of the promise.
