Sure Sir Alf was the only manager to bring home the silverware...but what manager has made the biggest impact since 66?
howard wilkinson. charismatic tactical genius. good looking too, looks a lot like the guy off saw imo.
Sven-Göran Eriksson Three consecutive tournament quarter finals (only matched by Brazil). Top qualifying place in all three International tournaments. Took England from 17th place to 5th in the world rankings (peaked at 4th). Highest point percentage in tournament matches of any England manager. (*) Lost only 5 competitive games. That Germany match and beat Argentina in the WC. * Capello is currently leading the table but he has only managed four games. Until Capello can match or exceed any of that then he must be rated behind Sven.
Which will mean nothing if he does not deliver or exceed some of the above. You simply cannot rate a manager on the basis of a handful of games.
What does that mean? Euro and WC? If so Holland had quarterfinals (or better) at Euro92, WC94, Euro'96, WC'98 and Euro2000.
Teso is referring to the time frame of Sven managing England 2001 -2006. During these years no other European team managed 3 QFs at 3 consecutive tournaments. Holland's record (under several managers) in the 90's is not relevent here.
