Celtic has no pressure whatsoever to play a congruent attacking style, they already won the whole dang thing.
Sounds like Timo is done at Celtic: FWIW, Celtic fans on reddit and twitter are pretty displeased with the way the club treated Weah after Rodgers' departure.
Damn, "with this decision, the gaffer told me it is in the best interest of the team that I collect my things and go home..." Sounds like the gaffer didn't like that.
Well, 394,000 followers and closing in on 35,000 likes in the first hour. Weah has a big league social media game, for sure. And this post is really well done on a lot of levels, assuming he wanted to throw a little shade...
Good on Weah for sticking to his guns. The U20 World Cup is a great showcase for players like him, and much better than a combined 17 minutes at Celtic over the rest of the season.
I agree. The gaffer wasn’t giving him any PT idk why he would be all salty. Better to go play and start at the u-20 WC than the get maybe a couple of cameos.
https://tbrfootball.com/john-hartson-responds-to-timothy-weah-departure-from-celtic/ Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson has assessed Weah’s time with the club and feels he never got enough time on the pitch to get up to full speed. “Timothy Weah showed in spurts that he certainly has great talent.. never got him on the pitch enough in the 5/6 months he was on loan to see his true worth.. wish him well in the future,” Hartson wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Based on the latest reporting it seems that Celtic and the US Camp worked out a compromise where Weah would join the U-20 team now, and then regroup with Celtic before the Cup Final. Apparently Weah said No to that and Celtic told him to leave now then.
I don't blame him saying no to that. He's not a fully developed player by any means, but based on his production in limited minutes and Celtic supporters' online commentary on the matter, it seems pretty clear that he deserved more time than he got under their new manager. And lest we forget, he had other compelling loan options in better leagues and still chose to come to Celtic to fight for a spot. And if he had stayed at PSG, he would have at least been practicing day to day with better players and coaching. At some point, it's fine to say if you (Lennon) don't value me then I'm going to focus on a team that does and opportunities that are better for my development in general.
One particular reddit poster even calls him “a good [c-word for female genitalia].” High praise from a Scotsman.
Everything was quite positive in the Reddit thread; the only negative by one or two posters was that Weah supposedly didn't work hard enough in training. Not sure if there's anything to that. He certainly ran his ass off in the games I watched.
If we assume that he's not going to play for Celtic nor PSG next season, what might be the next Weah station?
Depends on how the U-20 WC goes. I don't think anyone can make a guess that's even half-informed until then.
A bit disappointed he won't be at the GC because I think he's better than our other options--especially considering he can play FW or on the wing--but it makes sense for him to play in the U20 WC. It will give him a better showcase for his talents. If he succeeds he will have buyers for next year.
Such as? Not that I'm contesting you - at all - but I don't remember the names being that widely circulated when he joined.
Maybe they'll loan him to Columbus and we can have an epic title: "Where there's a Wil, there's a Weah."
