Heading back. Could only stay 1 night, but managed to hit 3 brew pubs. (We were aiming for 5, but 2 were closed today, as waa the winery outside Mt. Horeb), plus bought beer from Lake Louie, another tiny brewery. Now at Viking Brew Pub in Stoughton. Excellent Scotch Ale and "Midnight Sun" red ale. Even the Nordic Blond is good. Bought a 32oz. "Growler" of Scotch Ale to take home. The play was okay.
Staying in the Dells tonight on the way to Minneapolis for a wedding tomorrow. We'll probably do our standard brewery visit. Anyone been here? https://surlybrewing.com/
I have never been to Surly Brewing, but I have had a bunch of their beers. Bender is pretty good. I have been told that have some really interesting stouts/porters at the brewery. If you are close to Stoughton, Wi on your way to the Dells, Viking Brewing on Main St, Stoughton is worth a stop. If you are have a chance to swing by Mineral Point, Wi, Brewery Creek Brewery and Bed & Breakfast is awesome. https://brewerycreek.com/
That is more or less on the way. Do they have food? The wife and I will have to stop somewhere, and that looks right up her alley.
They both have food. I have not eaten at Viking. I saw some people eating when I was there and it looked pretty good for bar food. Brewery Creek has a regular restaurant. They have pretty decent steaks, pastas and the like.
Sorry, Stoughton is the one I was considering because it's on the way and we should be there around 8pm for dinner. I think I have the wife convinced because I said it had a Viking ship for a bar. I mean, I assume it does... How could it not?
It did have a viking ship bar and it was great. The Uff Da beer was a personal favorite. My wife liked the session IPA they had brewed special for one of the bartender's wedding. It's a Norwegian bar but I promised to send them some of our "Sweetist, Swedish liquor." So look for that the next time you stop in.
Also, somehow, Hilton put us in the best room in the hotel with a 4th floor 20'x20' balcony. Trip is looking like one of the best domestics so far. Also, already drank a couple mimosas. On to Minneapolis!
Stayed not too far from there on St Patrick's day weekend when I still had hope. It's amazing. So many beers you might die if you try em all and fire pits for warmth
Just got back from Lawrence, KS. Going in, all I knew is that it was the location of the Scopes Monkey Trial. Now I know it's a beautiful Hipster haven on the prairie. Great food and beer scene. I can't believe I'm saying this, but do yourself a favor and visit KS.
Yes, it is insane. There are over 30 neighborhoods, where the average price is over $1,000,000. In the Ahterton neighborhood, the average home price is over $7,000,000! https://graphics.wsj.com/table/1millioncities_080918
