The property is relatively close to Potosi , I could probably walk to the historic Potosi Brewery. But it's going to be 5+ years before I build a house up there and likely 15+ before I live up there full time. Prairie Du Chien is a nice little town, I looked at property up there. Nearly bought a house in town . I've been property hunting from Dubuque to la Crosse the last two years . I sold two houses I bought in the bust for pennies on the dollar in Batavia and St Charles. I've been waiting for the right thing and I found it
Midland Michigan. Taking care of my dad after he fell at home. Monday or Tuesday maybe. I called for a well being check on Friday. Will be ok, just needs a lot of physical therapy.
He should be. Looks like he was trying to push himself up to stand and the arm of the recliner chose that moment to break and he went down. Aside from the weakness from the Parkinson's hesh in pretty good shape.
My 85 year old Dad has Parkinson's as well. Each year is more of a challenge. Best wishes and a great stay.
On my annual (missed it last year) trip to the UP. A tie down snapped and one of my kayaks flew off the truck at 75 mph somewhere north of Wausau around midnight. I walked back to clear the debris off the highway and, low and behold, the kayak was somehow in perfect shape minus a little road rash. My wife was literally angry about how lucky I am.
Enjoy the pasties, lots and lots of pasties, but only after kayaking. They are delicious and satisfying and in my top-10 foods. I had first year lawyer "fellow" from the UP and, when he would go to visit his parents, I always made him bring me a supply of pasties.
I spent about a year of my life in Florida between the ages of about 10 and 25. My father and grandmother both moved down there. Did not go there again for about 20 years. I have been in Miami, the Keys and the Gulf coast in the past three years. It has some great components to it and a whole lot of awfulness. Maybe in a couple of years, you can go to an away game of either: Fire v. Beckham FC or Chicago USL v. Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Not to mention that there are so many things that can kill you there: Alligators Snakes Sharks Barracuda Hurricanes Floridians
Golfing here on Tuesday (the first time I've golfed since my daughter was born) then heading to the Pasty Corner in Iron River. I love everything about the Pasty Corner from the Bible verses on the sign to the mining memoribilia inside. Not to mention the pasties.
When I was a kid, we would go up to Iron Mountain, where my relatives had a cabin. Haven't been up there since I was a kid, but I think about heading to the UP every couple of years (I best not mention the golf). Enjoy the pasties.
Spending a couple of relaxing days in central Wisconsin. Went to the American Players Theater in Spring Green. No Shakespeare this year. Ionesco tonight. Spending the night at a nice dog friendly hotel in Dodgeville (first time I could ever bring my dog to a hotel), with an indoor/outdoor "swim out" pool and a massive Jacuzzi in the room (no, dogs are not allowed in the pool. They are not that dog-friendly). Tomorrow, off the Grumpy Troll Brewery, Mineral Point for pasties (town was settled by Cornish miners) and, time permitting, New Glarus (although I think Spotted Cow is over rated).
Truck started smoking when we stopped for cheese curds. Currently stuck in Coloma, WI. Seems nice enough.
Got the worst mosquito bites of my life camping outside of Coloma. My parents eventually took us to a hotel.
