I just know that every time I've been to Wausau, I've felt thin. That takes some doing, but I think it's a sign you'd like the diet. That said, it seems like a nice town. Paper mills leave something of an "aroma" hanging about the place.
I have not met enough "locals" to judge. At the brewpubs, people seem of 'average' size. In the "crisp" winter air, I have not noticed it, yet, but I have been warned.
Wausau is nice. I stop there most trips up to the UP. It really is the edge of civilization though. As soon as you hit Tomahawk/Rhinelander you fallen off. Edit: Also, good luck!
Thanks. Update: The interview went well, but it was too short (75 minutes, including a ridiculously short teaching demonstration), especially considering I drove almost 600 miles there and back. It is a very nice small city. Three brewpubs (I went to two, the third is Great Dane, which I have been to a few times in Madison), very low cost of living, the college was pretty modern. I am on the fence about the position. It would be a fantastic opportunity, but I am just not sure yet. When I got home, I looked it up and Wausau was the largest "city" in Wisconsin that I had not visited previously.
We are taking a few days relaxation at The Abbey on Lake Geneva while I consider my future. I have been offered the professorship! Heading up to Wausau Tuesday to meet with them and make my decision.
I saw the legendary Ricky Nelson at the Abbey when I was a child. I also saw the Turtles and The Grass Roots there. And played Bosconian for the first time. Memories.
Anyone have any Barcelona pro tips? I'm here for a week and aside from the main stuff looking for a hidden gem or 2 (food recommendations especially welcome)
Don't know if you can reservations but my brother says Tickets is the place to go for foodies. It is on my list of places to go to.
It's a beautiful day I have a full tank of gas, getting my oil changed now and just vaccumed my car. Where too? 80 west? 94 East towards Michigan? Beach?
Well things are getting serious now with the Covid-19 yet this tour was planned months ago and no clubs have cancelled yet so probably going to go through with it. Come see yours truly at the Chop Shop playing guitar with this supergroup mashup of members of Deals Gone Bad (Chgo) and the Slackers (NYC). Ska, Rock Steady, Reggae and Soul.
Welp, I was supposed to be heading to Orlando on Saturday for the Fire match. With the 30 day suspension of the schedule, that's off now. I'm hoping against hope my trip to Scotland next Friday can still be a go. We'll see - if I ended up stuck in Edinburgh, I can think of far worse fates.
And just like that...tour cancelled. When the lead singer flew in from Cincinnati yesterday it was a green light but by the time he landed 4 gigs were cancelled from under us. The whole thing is untenable and probably cancelling is for the best. Maybe when the world is less crazy we can try again. OH well... twiddling my thumbs this weekend I guess and no MLS or crappy EPL to watch.
While my flights to Scotland next Friday are still a "go," the UK is shutting down similar to the US. It doesn't make sense to spend a week stuck in a hotel room. Bloodyhell!
