Actually had more fun than anticipated in Memphis. The BBQ we had (Central BBQ and Rendezvous) was top-notch, every Lyft driver had a story about the city (Prince Mongo's castle was particularly interesting), the city turns out for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon, the Stax Museum is awesome, Beale St is cool and Ghost River and Wiseacre breweries both have tasty brews. The Lorraine Motel/National Civil Rights Museum is pretty heavy stuff, but a necessary stop imho. Graceland is pretty wack/expensive, but otherwise, it was a fun place to spend a few days and I'd probably check it out again if the opportunity popped up.
Maybe this should be cross posted in the "drinking" thread, but my sister in law, who some of you have met at games, discovered a bar in NOLA that has malort. I will be spending next month's vacation there.
Wow! That sounds excellent. I am driving to a crap little town outside of Carbondale, IL for Christmas. Bet you're jealous. (I do not expect the cell service to be great there. I am heading to what looks like a big white dead zone* west of I-57 and east of the Mississippi) *this refers to cell phone service, but could also refer to the people
Is that at The Dungeon? (738 Toulouse, just off of Bourbon St) When we were down the first time, everyone there had a Chicago connection. The bar tender was wearing an Alley t-shirt. I asked if they had Malort. They did not, but said they would try to get it.
I actually brought a Chicago Fire hat as a gift for my host as I heard he was a big soccer fan - but when I finally met him and asked what his favorite team was he said "the team with Messi" - I wanted to snatch the hat back, but didn't
Back in Chicago for the holidays, but have been in Ireland for work for the past 3 months. I like it.
The wife and I are planning a European vacation for 2018. We have decided on London and Reykjavik as 2 of the 3 possibly 4 stops. Where else should I go? We talked about Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Barcelona, and Prague as possibilities. Anybody recommend Zurich or Bratislava or someplace else? Been to Munich, Salzburg, and Malaga so probably not go back to any of those.
Prague is the most beautiful city I have ever seen. It is great. It used to be really inexpensive (it has been almost 10 years since I was there). London is my all time favorite city. Lived there during law school. I was in Bratislava just once, so cannot comment. I am begging to go Reykjavik, Oslo, Stockholm or Copenhagen.
Barcelona is absolutely wonderful! I absolutely fully endorse a trip there. You will not be disappointed. Copenhagen is alright, but I wouldnt recommend it as the 3rd place to go, given your list.
