I was shocked they left Ureña on the field after he took that accidental blow to the face. I think it was in the first half, and his eye swelled up immediately. Looked like he was going to have quite a black eye, now it turns out to be multiple fractures.
Jon Busch inks 1-day contract with Crew SC to retire with Columbus Ok dude you only played twice as many games for the Quakes but whatever...
We could use a few more guys like Buschy. He literally bled for the shirt. Flo and Lima have that mentality but it's lacking in a lot of other guys right now.
Some like it shaved, but we love Busch !!!! (Image circa 2011 in the immediate wake of the infamous phantom Bobby Burling red card and resulting PK conversion at Real Salt Lake).
What a legend and an even better mentor! https://t.co/apFXyuzoKW— JT Marcinkowski (@JT_Marcinkowski) May 10, 2018
Spotted playing midfield for Santa Cruz Breakers. Impressive that he's still in good enough shape to play.
Former MLS star Danny O’Rourke joins Indiana Hoosiers staff May 17, 2018 https://www.soccerwire.com/notes/fo...rourke-joins-indiana-hoosiers-coaching-staff/ After his tremendous career at Indiana, O’Rourke was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes with the fourth overall pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. O’Rourke played 11 seasons in the MLS with the Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls, Columbus Crew and Portland Timbers, earning 186 starts in 200 career matches. O’Rourke is a two-time MLS Cup winner, taking home the title with the Columbus Crew in 2008 and the Portland Timbers in 2015.
Didn't he earn the nickname "knuckles" while here? I don't recall why, but for some reason, that is sticking in my memory.
Danny O'Rourke was the featured guest at the Club Quake pregame tailgate circa early 2005, back when that sort of thing happened. CQ had a butcher-paper banner with the player's name. The player would sign it and it would be auctioned at the end of year dinner. This one had a black-and-white photo of Danny tackling Freddy Adu (a star at the time), visually making clear who was boss of the encounter, with a cartoon bubble text inserted from Danny to the effect, "Welcome to MLS, Kid!" I won it at the CQ end of year auction, and I believe (hope) I donated it to the museum. Always think of the banner whenever Danny's name comes up.
I've got to say that I'm happy in many respects about MLS becoming more competitive and higher profile, but there are a lot of things about the old days at Buck Shaw and (especially) Spartan that I really miss. Avaya is great, but it just doesn't have that same intimate feel to it -- I don't know if that's because of the moat, or the modern, structural-steel erector set construction, but that's definitely something I notice.
Although its a mixture of both NASL and WSA Quakes, I didn't think it belonged int he NASL thread so I placed it here. Among George Best, Steve Zungul , Fernando Clavijo and Chris Dangerfield, my cousin made #12. Beautiful goal! Bravo cugino! WATCH: TOP 20 - The best 80s Quakes goals
I think the lack of atmosphere is due to the disinterested fans and so many empty seats. Without the Ultras, the place would be dead silent. Maybe the moat has an adverse effect as well.

Good luck to Adam, and Marco, and all of the former Quakes, as long as they aren't playing us. Go Quakes!! - Mark
