Chris Dangerfield tweets that Mike Mesaros, who played for the original 1974 San Jose Earthquakes team, passed away. RIP. Mesaros also played for the Oakland Clippers. Mesaros' #12 Quakes jersey, worn a year later by 1975 Quake David Dufty, and shown in this link, was previously donated by Dufty to the Soccer Legacy Collection at History San Jose. http://www.nasljerseys.com/Players/M/Meszaros.Mihalj.htm
Steven Lenhart has officially retired from soccer due to nagging concussion issues. Statement up on fc imbari site.
Sad. I went to see him at his auto body shop a few years back and he still looked good. In other news.......
Walter Martinez retired late last year http://www.diez.hn/liganacionaldeho...ida-de-walter-pery-martínez-en-estados-unidos (google translate does a decent job) I still remember that great goal he scored against seattle
I believe that is the game where Andrew Weber (another where in the world are former Quakes) subbed in unexpectedly due to injury to the Sounders' starting keeper. The night before I had a couple drinks with him and a mutual friend at the now defunct Blackbird Tavern downtown. Weber was unconcerned about his alcohol intake (though he didn't drink to excess) because he did not expect to play the next day. I figure I get an assist for keeping the opposition up past an appropriate curfew.
You can vote for your former favorite Quake, now happily playing in Paris! http://www.parisfootballclub.com/equipe-pro/elisez-joueur-de-saison-2016-2017/
From as much as I could pick up, it gives me a little insight just how great the French Ligue 2 is. So much is made about the level of mls but I'd put this league up against many tier 2 outfits.
You have an "Intergalactic Spaceboat of Light and Wonder"? Have you seen this? https://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla_model_s
Watching a NASL game Indy 11 vs. N. Carolina. John Bush in goal and Brad Ring on the field for Indy 11.
Same as the opener in San Francisco in late April at Kezar. Taught the "some like it shaved, but we love Bush" chant at halftime to the traveling Indy supporters (yes, there were a few); Bush clapped in our general direction as he was returning to his net for the second half, and then after the game came over with Ring and chatted with the handful of Quakes fans amidst the Indy supporters.
I want to see Jon become a coach, preferably for our Quakes! Or at least Reno after Ian ascends to the HC job in San José. Go Quakes!! - Mark
MPG is an interesting case study. It would figure that if he thrived with another team, we can continue to build a case that Dom doesn't utilize creative attacking players well. If he doesn't do well, fodder for those who think he wasn't all that good of a player. Unfortunately I think the jury is still a little bit out, but I think he has done pretty well on balance. The team and Kreis seem to like him, and he was MOTM and scored a goal and had an assist I think in their last game. But his contract is ending and not yet resolved. They probably want to see if they can sign him for a pay cut. He is 32 now so that is another factor. https://www.themaneland.com/2017/6/19/15827386/should-orlando-city-keep-matias-perez-garcia
I doubt Ian would be a good professional coach. Maybe he is good for youth or recently graduated college players but I do not see him in the pros.
I wasn't serious about Ian becoming our head coach, but, the way this club thinks, he'll be a candidate. We always look to current or former connections to the club, which I think is wrong for the record. Should have put a smilie face on that post. Go Quakes!! - Mark
