He probably got injured a lot more and had a lot more strain on the sprinting hammies due to the cretinous idiocy of having to play that idiot run-rabbit-run tandem thing with Heskey. Also, people like Ryan Giggs and Anelka and Craig Bellamy had those same injury problems and didn't have to change their game until they were 30+ yrs old. Owen may not have had a good (for him) stretching regimen. he was a sight to see in full flight though in the early days.
It is - but the fact is that it is more difficult for a player in england to break into first team football than it is in any of the other 4 of the big 5 leagues. They simply don't import as many star players. Look at City - if Sterling had come up through their youth he wouldn't have gotten intot he team - he was lucky to find that slot in a good Liverpool side which suited carrying him for pace. Mendy - Bernardo - Gundogan .... how is a youngster supposed to get a look in? An aside on that note (or bucking the trend) - Trent AA is a phenom and we struck gold in not having to pay for him....
It's surprising that the agent who so acrimoniously dealt with the Liverpool over Sterling and Sinclar would do business with Liverpool and get his charge to settle for less money when more was being elsewhere.
oxlade gives all the impressions of a guy who wnaned to play at Liverpool. It prob comes down to that.
Ultimately, the client has to make the final decision and agree to any deal. But that doesn't stop the agent from having a huge self interest in getting his client to move clubs on a regular basis and being shit-stirrer-in-chief .

the latest "seen this movie before / greedy bastard" news .... https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...nchester-city-impasse-contract-talks-pay-rise Manchester City and Raheem Sterling have reached an impasse in contract discussions for the forward, with the clock ticking as he will enter the final season of his deal in the summer. When joining from Liverpool in summer 2015 for £44m Sterling signed for five years. As it is thought there is no option for an extra 12 months his value will markedly decrease unless an agreement can be made before July. Sterling’s terms are worth around £170,00 a week and he wants to become one of City’s best-paid players, with a rise to a basic of £220,000 at least.

Defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock coupled with the Pope’s Newc O’Rangers’ 5-1 win over St Johnstone means the Queen’s Celtic have now endured their worst start to a season for 20 years. Already out of Big Cup and pondering the accompanying financial vicissitudes, the Scottish champions have dropped eight points out of 18 available this season and the crisis klaxon is sounding loudly. Highly regarded, certainly by himself, for the statesmanlike qualities he has exuded while leading the club to a domestic double treble in the past two years, Rodgers was presented with an opportunity to allay fears of the faithful when asked, post-match, if fans should be concerned. And the Churchillian response from the man who once cited himself as his own biggest influence? An uncharacteristically meek and rabble-unrousing: “Yes, they should.” Whisper it, but there are some fitba conspiracy theorists north of the border – a handful of whom can be found supporting either the Queen’s Celtic or O’Rangers – who are of the opinion that Brendan is not actually all that bothered by his side’s poor form and is currently trying to engineer his exit from the club. His relationship with the chairman is believed to be fraught due to a lack of summer investment, while he has incensed many fans by inexplicably welcoming Dedryck Boyata back into the fold despite the centre-half’s recent refusal to play in a crucial and ill-fated Big Cup qualifier.
yeah - horrible. It's no respecter of fitness either.... whatever it is .... That thing took out this guy too what a fantastic rugby player he was....
