Look for an announcement soon after Thanksgiving, along with the USL-1 schedule, which was first-drafted this weekend at the Annual General Meeting in Tampa. I believe the home opener is tentatively Saturday, April 11, at ... wait for it, wait for it ...
Officially, yes. Noted as such in the Vatican baptismal records, in fact. Long story. I'll tell you about it some day at Cuatro's. Or perhaps Midtown Live?
Oh, come on, guys. I gave you a perfectly good clue. Anyway, look for an announcement by the end of the day tomorrow, barring complications. Just barely too late for my deadline, but I'm not bitter.
The Aztex announced this morning in the Austin American-Statesman that the USL1 side will be playing at Nelson Field in Austin (next to Reagan High School) for the 2009 season. The team stated that they were targeting House Park, but there were delays with the locker renovations that prevented them from playing there in 2009, although they have an option to move as the contract is with AISD which owns both fields. Here's a satellite view of where I think the field is. I tried to find some pictures online but couldn't at this time of the morning. No news on whether this includes the PDL side.
well it's not House, but it's not bad. 10,000 capacity Sinthetic turf Looks to be a bit wider than RR or House, but maybe not. Good Parking Not soo sure abotu the location, but again it's better than RR I just have two questions. Where can we tailgate, and where is the nearest footie friendly pub.
I lived about a mile from there for awhile. Kind of a rough neighborhood, but a lot of parking at the high school. The biggest drawback besides the plastic pitch is the running track around the field. I can't think of any watering holes in the area that people will want to meet at. A lot of hotels and restaurants on the I-35 feeder road, but very few places east of I-35.
Phil was also on 1300. I just missed listening to it when I got in the car. I just finished listening to it. Sounds like they have some nice things planned. I live just on the other side of I-35 from there. I'll scout around for a pub. But there's nothing that close that comes to mind. Just chain restaurants along I-35. We're going to have to get creative. And we definitely can't tailgate in the parking lot. Plusses: plenty of parking. And really easy access from all directions. Hm... This looks intriguing: Nomad Bar. "people who want to taste the world." Their real website. ...But y'all may find this more appealing. Having put up with the Tilted Kilt, I suppose I could survive it.
The running track is a bit of a drag. And it's a bit too large. We're going to have to work harder to make noise and give it an atmosphere.
That's the one. I'd've preferred House, but, oh, well. It's actually more convenient for me. Not a very attractive photo -- it's from just south of the east stands.
From their website, it looks like it might work. Very close to the field, although I wouldn't necessarily walk, it looks cozy. The fact that they make it a point to state they're "international" may help in setting the atmosphere.
Considering that Nomad Bar is near Cameron Road, it's more of a short drive rather than a walk to the stadium. I guess Reagan H.S. is better than none. The plus side is the seating capacity & the parking. The track area kills it though so it going to be a big task to create that atmosphere. Interesting that Rawlins mentioned that the field at House Park was "chewed up" and had to do "remodeling" on the lockers room. You don't suppose that has something to do with the pointyball high school football players' behavior at House Park?
We appreciate your willingness to make such a sacrifice on our behalf. A true team player. Actually, just looking at their site entry page, they have locations here, San Marcos & Charlotte. Too bad the Charlotte Eagles are a USL-2 team, or there could have been a good case for team or league sponsorship... What about Midtown Live, from Barbaro's original clue? Can't seem to find their real website (just CitySearch-type results); maybe they're more of a nightclub?
Aren't the Charlotte Eagles a religious based soccer organization? The club and the bar go well hand in hand just like oil and water. BTW here is the audio link: Aztex radio interview on AM 1300.
Interesting. I had no idea that was a clue. It didn't come up on the google search I did. I guess that's a possibility as well. And I guess we should, after the holidays, start organizing gatherings to try them out.
Amen ta that. And the Nomad, at least in name, would be most appropriate considering it sounds like we may still be a semi/nomadic supporters group for a semi/nomadic squad for at least a year or so. But who knows
It's a nightclub. http://cityguide.aol.com/austin/business/midtown-live/v-109379584/?orderby=0 http://www.blackpressusa.com/news/Article.asp?SID=3&Title=National+News&NewsID=3981
hmmmm, soul food, dance floor, KILLER DRINK SPECIALS, close proximity, hsitorically significant, motown, soul, and blues music. Sounds like a perfect haunt for a "Austin" style group, such as our selves. It sounds at least worth a check out, at least so we can find out if they have TVs and wouldn't mind broatcasting away games. If they can, and will, then I'm sold.
