The NY Times has a feature about the Miami Marlins struggles. The baseball team has a new stadium with parking, and the fans still don't come. When is MLS going to realize that this isn't a good sports town? Pinko commies! Gatos/Toros -> Fort Lauderdale Strikers -> Minnesota Strikers (Miami 1976 av att: 3,070) Fusion - Defunct (2001 av Att 11,177) Miami FC (2006-2010) -> Fort Lauderdale Strikers (Miami 2010 av att: 1,254)
Miami does have the problem with A) A horrible owner even the most supportive of fans cannot stand, and B) the stadium was shoved down their throats against their wishes by said owner and the politicians who are now out of office because of said shoving. Also, have you seen that the Marlins are suing their own fans for not renewing season tickets? Good luck with community relations when that's how your team operates.
The NY Times weighs in, although there isn't much new in this story: David Beckham Closes In on M.L.S. Franchise. Will Miami Care? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/30/sports/soccer/david-beckham-mls-franchise-ownership-miami.html
As much as 15 minutes away? I walk probably ten minutes to my stadium (Rapid Vienna) from the last stop of the tram line that goes to the stadium! Americans are so effing lazy that the maximum 15 minute walk is a deal-breaker? Well I'm American and I grew up there, so I know all about it, but that's just pathetic.
Not every 15 minute walk is created equal. A 15 minute walk through a nice neighborhood at a comfortable temperature is very different from a 15 minute walk through a bad neighborhood in unpleasant heat and humidity. That's why walking to the stadium works in Portland, but it won't work in Miami.
Two words: Uber & Lyft. This is going to happen. I will take that 3k or 4k bet all day. I'll give you double that attendance & double the wager?
