I don't think there is more than 5 points left on our schedule based on the form of the last two months, before I even consider what the relative health of this team is. I can see us beating Borussia Cincy Gladbach and scratching out points at Vancouver and home vs Seattle. Too much SUM money + the real estate development opportunities that are associated with the club. I think we're stuck with this anvil for a long time. Levien doesn't care about the team if there is a good pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and the partners/investors sure don't if they're getting paid.
I agree that 5 points would be a very good guess for the rest of the season. But, with Atlanta, New England and NYRB having one game in hand on us and with NYCFC having 4 games in hand on us, I see us sliding down to 5th or 6th place pretty quickly. Toronto FC might even slip past us for the 7th playoff spot altho TFC is also a truly terrible team. At the New England game, I remarked that United might not win another game this season but I forgot that the season ending game will be against FC Cincinnati. What's probably in store if we do make the playoffs is probably yet another soul-sapping loss to a much better team..
There will be nothing soul sapping about a first round playoff loss, because it will likely be midweek and an away game, so no will see it on Flo. It will just be a box score on the web and some twitter banter.
Hell yeah. But, I did go downtown to watch the Flo cablecast a week ago last Saturday at Across the Pond for our away game against Chicago and those are two hours of my life that I'd like to have back. As much as I like Across the Pond's owners, I doubt if I'll do that again this season.
Hey remember when we thought we would make the playoffs and all we had to do was beat Portland at home and Joseph Ngwenya missed an open net goal and we lost? Let’s not assume anything about Cincinnati
Absolutely. But the fact that I find it very believable that a first-round playoff exit would barely be noticed is damning, IMHO.
DC's won 3 times since this thread was created! Those miss the playoffs/DCU will earn 5 points posts seem even more pessimistic than usual.
