The hat trick against Honduras brought him to 55 goals

2 more to tie. 3 to break the record.

Not inconceivable that he could be on 60 by year's end (if he plays his cards right).

Will he break it against Panama or Trinidad and Tobago?

Might he wait til he plays away against Mexico?

Or will it take until the Gold Cup?

    Yup.

    More likely against T&T though.

In response to that ESPN article.. Donovan had 58 assists with the Nats, the current all time best. 57 goals. 58 assists. Second best is 22 assists. Only focusing on goals is simply amateurish. I love both Dempsey, Donovan for what they've done for soccer in this country. How stupid to claim so definitively one is greater than the other based on a "towering" goal per game difference of 0.42 to 0.36 (Dempsey to Donovan). Assists per game is 0.11 to 0.37 (as of the end of 2016) for the same two players. Give me a break.

If he starts yeah. With a likely healthier roster I wonder if they'll save him for the Mexico match.

I guess it's because the value is given toward goals. But you are right. Dempsey will have 1 record while Donovan having the other.

People should be able to honor the goals record without saying it would make Dempsey the best USMNT player ever. Michael Jordan is considered the best basketball player without the career points record, and Pete Rose's hit record should be praised without saying that he was better than Babe Ruth because of it.

Why? LD took way more penalty kicks and was a starter before Deuce. Why can't people appreciate what LD did and like what Deuce is doing more? There doesn't need to be a consensus. We don't need a US soccer Zeus/Daddy.
