Anyway, it goes way beyond the Giants. Until and unless the 1922 antitrust exemption MLB received is lifted (and the Supreme Court declined to hear a challenge in June of 2018), there is really no remedy for the way the A's were served by the Giants. The only way it will change is if Congress acts to remove the exemption, and I'm not holding my breath.

 

Yeah, there's no way that's being lifted. If anything, we'll just keep seeing it move further in the other direction. Minor leaguers don't necessarily even earn minimum wage due to exemptions granted by congress, plus the way players are regulated via service time, etc, are all hard violations of the labor laws that apply to most industries.

Plus, pro team owners are very adept at getting fans to side with either the league or team management. All they have to do is sign a big contract now and again to give the illusion that things are fair and that, really, the owners are the little guy.

 

Saw Gary Singh zipping by Kelly's Liquors (4th and Empire in San Jose) on one of those motorized scooters earlier this evening as I was driving home from the office. I picked up a six pack of Jai Alai, an IPA from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa. Excellent stuff. Haven't seen it available elsewhere.

 

The remedy was for the Giants to have returned the territory back to the A's. Oh, but, that would have required the Giants to do the right thing.
