Climate change must have caused that bear to lose its balance.

Rewarding Will Clark is not a good look for the Giants, in my opinion. But given some other activities that the team's owner has engaged in fairly recently, I can't say I'm surprised.

Honest question as someone who does not follow the Giants closely but remembers Will Clark as a great player form three decades ago, why is it not a good luck to honor him?

He has a history of racist remarks and generally poor behavior as a player.

Guy visited every professional venue for NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL (of course, not MLS).

    . . . Best Tailgate Scene

“Tailgating, I think I would point to Buffalo. I really liked the way the whole town felt like a Bills parking lot. It felt like you were outside the stadium all over town on the morning of the game. You could see people in their gear getting ready to head out to the stadium. Then, when you get near the stadium, there’s a lot of homes that let you park on their lawn for five or 10 bucks and people set up chairs and set up barbecues. You feel like you’re walking through someone’s barbecue basically. It’s usually bitter cold up there and they’re all huddled together and they’ve all got their woolens on. It’s a pretty cool scene.” . . .

I'm really surprised that people are unaware of this. I thought it was pretty well known that Clark was no stranger to racial slurs.

    Sports Illustrated feature (1990):

. . . The animosity took an ugly turn in Clark's second season. On a road trip to Philadelphia, he and [Jeffrey] Leonard [a black player] got into a scuffle that ended up on the clubhouse floor. Clark won't discuss the incident, but one source who was in a position to know says that Leonard's young nephew had asked Clark for his autograph, and Clark had made a racial slur and told him to get out of his way. When Leonard heard about the episode and confronted Clark the next day, the two men went at it until teammates broke them apart.

Another time, Clark used a racial epithet in an argument with teammate Chris Brown, an incident for which he apologized to the entire team. "The thing with Chris Brown was done without thinking," says Craig. "Chris accepted his apology. Will has a very high level of intensity, and doesn't realize he's doing those things."

Both incidents were recalled during last year's World Series, when Clark had the poor judgment to refer to Leonard, by this time playing for Seattle, as "a tumor." Leonard responded by calling Clark "a prejudiced——."

At the very least, Clark certainly is thoughtless about the use of racially offensive words. But Clark vehemently denies being a bigot. "Some of my best friends are black," he says. "That has nothing to do with it."

"We get along like two brothers," [Kevin] Mitchell [himself black] says in Clark's defense. "If he's a racist, he's sure putting up a good front. He treats me like family." . . .

Great discussion from a left-liberal publication why mainstream media false narratives are ultimately counterproductive. It's easy to discount social injustice when the next story can be dismissed as a lie, just like the last one.

. . . What bothers me about it is that it being untrue leaves black people who are concerned with where we are on race open to a charge of lying. There are so many cases where the facts are quite clear. And then there is a case that people will bring all the time, that there will be movies and plays about, which is based on a lie. And the lie is easy to find today with the internet.

The most prominent case of a cop murdering a black man is one where we happen not to have been told the truth. Where you can always say, “Actually, that didn’t happen.” It’s not healthy because it’s going to stand in the way of constructive debate. It’ll leave many people wondering whether we were lied to about a lot of the other cases . . .
