With all the fires in Northern California, I smell smoke, it brings me back to a simpler time. Tasty waves a cool buzz and I’m So Fine Peace , Love and Day on the Green-Shoreline Concerts are in the air! Spark it up dude! Smoke up Johnny!
Hmmm, I have never associated raging wildfires that destroy people's homes and lives with lighting up a doobie. Do you bring marshmallows and a stick to local house fires?
The largest (most pungent?) marijuana second-hand contact high I ever got was in the supporters section at San Siro -- in Italy.
Before the Miracle on Ice in 1980, there was the Buffalo Sabres' crushing of a Soviet club team, 12-6, in 1976. Remembered on the occasion of one of the Soviet stars' induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. . . . ."We were smashed by your team," Yakushev said. "They were really tough. They played very well. It was very surprising the game went that way. There were four games that year and the only game we lost was in Buffalo." The Sabres played the Montreal Canadiens the next night in the Forum. In the wake of the victory, Montreal fans broke decorum when Buffalo came on the ice for warmups. The crowd rose into a standing ovation -- for the visiting team. . . . https://buffalonews.com/2018/11/09/buffalo-sabres-nhl-hockey-hall-of-fame-alexander-yakushev/ I still remember watching the game, even though I was a kid at the time, more than four decades ago. It was the height of the Cold War and the games were all fought with the intensity of a championship matches.

Posted as evidence that the existence or absence of a team dynamic is the crucial difference between a cellar-dweller and a competitor. The Buffalo Sabres, like the Quakes, were at the bottom of the league last season and have been perennially absent from the playoffs. They didn't fire their coach, however, but have rebounded nicely so far (it's still early) because of an improved locker room. The Quakes should work on doing the same. The wreckage was so scattered and widespread that it was hard to know where to start. Should the Sabres deal with the embarrassment of being a perennial loser? Or should they fix the anger issues? Lack of pride was an obvious problem. So, too, was stubbornness. At the root of all of those was absence of trust. There was no team in Buffalo, just a fractured group of guys. About the only thing they did together was dismantle the bond with the community, one that had been built over 40-plus years. So during the offseason, the Sabres made a point to create trust. . . . Slowly, a bond formed. . . . It wasn’t easy and certainly didn’t happen overnight, but the Sabres are a team again. . . . https://theathletic.com/646462/2018...-and-the-past-and-its-showing-in-the-results/

"Little House on the Prairie Actress Katherine MacGregor Dead at 93" (TVLine.com - Wednesday, 11/14/18)
The calendar might say November, but the weather map thinks its [sic] winter. Thanks in part to temperatures 15 to 30 degrees below normal across much of the eastern United States, National Weather Service (NWS) offices have issued winter weather advisories and warnings from Mississippi to Maine as a major storm system continues to take shape. . . . https://www.washingtonpost.com/weat...-first-big-winter-storm-season/?noredirect=on I looked for something in the New York Times, but though they have a climate section, they apparently cannot be bothered with anything as prosaic as the weather.
