Heartbreaking loss but they played well. Sadly, Aaron Rogers is too good!

True, though imagine if the 49ers had chosen Aaron Rogers rather than Alex Smith as the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Along with every other QB who has failed with the Niners ever since, I’m betting Rogers will have also. Sitting behind Brett Favre for 5 years I’m sure help him develop into the player he became.

Allen was a minority owner, (10%?) though was crucial to getting the Sounders into MLS by letting them into the Seahawks sandbox.

Would be nice if Allen donated $200 million to building the Sounders own SSS with real grass in a trust. Last I heard, even though the FieldTurf at CenturyLink was replaced, its still a crap field for soccer.

The angry Astros appealed, and replay officials in New York ruled that West's call would "stand" because they didn't have any video angles that definitively proved he was wrong.

What a concept? The call stands without clear and convincing video evidence to the contrary. Sounds like the way VAR is supposed to operate but did not in the Quakes game against Atlanta.

There are just so many issues with how VAR is implemented in soccer, starting with incredibly poor guidelines on how to use it. Baseball is very clear about how and where it can be used, and they are smart in that they send it off to league headquarters to review so that you get a totally different set of eyes on the situation that hopefully has more interest in getting the call right rather than not looking like a turd.

Unfortunately, soccer is at the mercy of FIFA, an organization that has the distinction of being both incredibly corrupt and hilariously inept, so it's no surprise that an attempt to improve the game has gone horribly wrong. Couple that with typically shameful MLS refereeing and you have a disaster of an officiating situation. MLS would do well to abandon VAR next season, and they would do even better to tell FIFA to go eff themselves. But so long as players fear not being able to participate in international tournaments, FIFA's reign of terror will never end and the game will continue to suffer vague rules and arbitrary decisions.
