Question: Is this 6 game successive series between the Giants and A's something new? I mean I recall they both played each other in years past in a home and away series but never 6 in a row before and after the All Star break.....
That's a good question. I too don't recall it happening exactly like it is this season, but it's kinda cool that it allows for both teams' players (except those participating in the All Star Game) some extra rest and minimal travel. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Yeah the players get to spend almost two weeks at home. I don't think that ever happened during an MLB regular season.
It's amazing to me that with the crap season they've had, the Gmen are only four games back, and with the great season they've had, the As are eight back. I expect both of these teams to come out strong after the break and for both to be in contention by September. #BayBridgeSeries2018!
Local interest film currently playing in Oakland and SF but (of course) not San Jose. https://slate.com/culture/2018/07/blindspotting-starring-daveed-diggs-and-rafael-casal-reviewed.html
https://slate.com/culture/2018/07/w...her-anti-gay-views.html?via=homepage_taps_top Posted here because of its obvious soccer interest, but also because I applaud the lesbian coach of the USWNT for giving a spot to a qualified player who has expressed (arguably) homophobic views the coach clearly does not herself endorse. There ought not to be an ideological litmus test for athletes, which is effectively what this essay foolishly advocates.

Yeah, I think this works both ways. Just as it is wrong for Kaepernick to be blackballed for his political statements, it is wrong for players who express opinions on the other end of the spectrum to be punished for that.
Yes, and I'm among those who side with Kaepernick (and Megan Rapinoe) in believing that they should be allowed to follow their conscience with respect to the anthem.

Our team is crap ... but this guitar is awesome!!! Moena Retreux Deluxe Hand built by Mike Baranik, this thing just sings. The sound hole design is based on the headlamp of an E-type Jaguar.
It’s nice, but I’ve become a huge believer in carbon fiber for acoustic guitars. Wood is a bit delicate...
Mmmmmmm. Maybe. I’ve a couple of those, but I still have a thing for real wood. The face on this is a very old piece of Port Orford Cedar. It sounds amazingly good. Granted, I spent way too much money on it, but it is really sweet. Go Quakes!! - Mark
One of these days! I have (second hand) a Martin custom 000-15, but someday I want a custom-built parlor guitar (I prefer smaller acoustics). I hope yours plays a sweet as it looks! Just curious: what sort of wood is the fretboard, bridge and headstock veneer? Is that cocobolo? It IS really beautiful! Just checked out Mike Baranik's website, and that PX model IS pretty amazing! I wonder how it would look and sound with a ziricote back and side?
Ooops. I missed typed. I have played a couple of the carbon fiber guitars, I don't actually own any. And for parlor guitars, I recommend Baranik. Just sayin'. These are great too: http://www.dhaxtonguitars.com/ This one is exceptional also. http://www.johnwalkerguitars.com/JWG1/PettyCreekElite.html This gal makes small bodied guitars too. http://urlacherguitars.com/ I don't remember what the woods are. They are South American trees, harvested sustainably and such. And yes, it plays and sounds as sweet as it looks. It is a parlor sized guitar, so nice and easy to play. It has a 24.5" scale length, so nice and short for a runty guy like me. Also. the lower tension on the strings really helps the tone of the midrange and bass notes, so the sound is really well balanced, and surprisingly loud for such a small guitar. I should mention that playing guitar makes me happy. It's good for reducing my anger levels. I fell in love with it at the La Conner Guitar Festival this past May. http://laconnerguitarfestival.com/ At the festival, I got to play a lot of really offensively expensive guitars. I was looking at one very slick larger acoustic and the maker asked me if I wanted to play it. So of course I did. While I was checking it out, he told me that he has a four year backlog, and thus could not take any orders just now. Then he told me that the instrument I was playing cost $14,000. Good thing I was sitting down. These are all scary expensive guitars. I think the cheapest was about $4,500. Go Quakes!! - Mark
