San Jose ranked 3rd on this list of top 10 "most beautiful city halls," ahead of San Francisco: https://www.curbed.com/2017/6/1/15721360/city-hall-best-beautiful-architecture
Don G, I'm pretty sure that list is showing 10th place to 1st backward We're 8th, it seems. I disagree with the #1 spot. First place should have been Buffalo's City Hall. The other City Halls look beautiful but Buffalo's has: 1) Art Deco. Quintessential American design. 2) Skyscraper structure. Also an American design. 3) Standing rocketship look. American frontier ideals and inspirations. Buffalo City Hall is straight up America!!! So FCUCK YEAHHH!!!!! Fcuck all the other City Halls (except for San Jose's LOL). Fcuck yours too, SF, piece of shit Euro poser wannabe
Interestingly, the Buffalo News gave prominence on its webpage to an article about the subjective rankings (which is how I uncovered them), whereas San Jose's Mercury News did not appear to even report our city hall's top-three showing. I'm not sure the rankings qualify as actual news, so I cannot criticize the omission. However, the juxtaposition illustrates the relative sense of civic pride at the two papers, which plays out in other more significant ways. By the way, Buffalo's City Hall is quite magnificent, and the single picture in the survey does not do it justice. There are many stunning architectural details and flourishes, inside and out. Some sense can be derived from the exterior and interior photos in the link below (click each to enlarge). But even those are no substitute for an in-person tour. http://www.buffaloah.com/a/niagSq/65/city.html San Jose's much newer city hall is designed by acclaimed architect Richard Meier, who also did the Getty Museum in L.A. It's not as highly regarded as some of his works, but it is still a gem, and, anecdotally, folks from out of town (including the San Jose Frogs' Austrian owner) have all marveled at it when I've shown it to them, whereas, paradoxically many locals (including the Mercury News editors?) find it to be an eyesore.
Here's an image of San Jose's old City Hall, in what is now Plaza de Cesar Chavez. It stood from the 1880s to the 1950s, when it was torn down and its debris unceremoniously tossed into the Coyote Creek basin during a less eco-friendly age. (Some was later excavated a few years ago, and I have one of the ruddy-red bricks as a stepping stone in my backyard).

What a miraculous building. Either people didn't care or know enough about the art of architecture to realize it shouldn't have ever been torn down. What a shame!

His interview with CBC a few months back is a hoot. Leave it to a Greek-Canadian to invent Hawaiian pizza banned in Iceland. "Only in America." RIP. http://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens...nd-s-president-disses-fruit-topping-1.3992890
Since we don't have a thread for season tix holders (do we?), can i ask a quick question? I'm trying to sell my Stanford game (out of town that day) but when logged into my Account Manager I don't see an option to sell them. Is there anything special I'm supposed to do as a season tix holder for this game? Thanks folks!
