The new Twente thread gives Steve a warm welcome back home. And the rest of you are welcome to keep posting here too.
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente Having Shteve around definitely makes the eredivisie more interesting.
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente He's very good at charming the pants of the Dutch media in any case. We played our first friendly on the Canary Islands last night and lost in a penalty shoot-out but apparently the football already looks much better. We're back to ye olde Twente system: positional play, calm build-up from the back. Looking forward to many a 1-0 to Twente then in the remainder of the season. McClaren last night had the dreaded 'who can I buy' talk with the chairman. The answer probably was 'no-one unless we ourselves sell'. Still it looks like we're near signing that Swedish left back (see other thread). Which is nice. On the subject of left backs, Nicky Kuiper is in full training and while not fully match fit, obviously, is doing well.
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente What manager doesn't have this talk? I see that Mancini despite having scads of players at ManCity wants to buy more!!!
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente Mancini is insane. If anyone wants to watch Twente's next friendly on Thursday night, there'll be a livestream on www.rtvoost.nl
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente Thanks alot for the very useful link, will be watched for sure !!!
Re: What's all red and loyal to its Chairman? Twente It makes you wonder if he's talking about players or heroin.
Seven (!!!!) pages of this week's print VI dedicated to Twente. Some stuff about the Adriaanse sacking and what caused it: - he publicly humiliated Chadli and Fer in front of the squad - squad questioned his tactics vs PSV ("We beat PSV three times last season, why do things differently now") but he ignored it all - after a Twente loss he put the blame on the players and never questioned himself: "I'm the boss, when things go wrong it's because of your poor execution of my plan" Oh dear. Other news: Janko and Bajrami are for sale. De Jong is officially our first striker now and isn't going anywhere any time soon.
Maybe Bouwes needs to read Derksen's opinion piece in VI this week. He slaughters Adriaanse and Van Halst, both of whom Bouwes seems to feel sorry for. And on television, Derksen earlier this week even apologised to Munsterman for recommending Adriaanse. Munsterman is not without fault. He's arguably the best chairman Dutch football has ever seen though. One of the best in any case.
And he's done it all without ever earning a single Eurocent for it. That's the bottom line. Coaches come and go, players come and go, leaving usually for better paid jobs, while they were all well paid for their efforts at Twente. Meanwhile Munsterman who's never been paid has stuck with us through thick and thin over the past eight years, working his balls of for us and achieving what we all thought was unimaginable just five years ago. Hence the thread title hehehe.
I might do but I still think it's a pretty good analogy. So Twente in 2011 was statistically among the top 20 best clubs in Europe (woohoooo!) See full ranking here. http://www.iffhs.de/?10f42e00fa2d17f73702fa3016e23c17f7370eff3702bb1c2bbb6f28f53512
No it's not. It's unjustly extrapolation the suffer from kids who lost their father in the construction process to the suffer of a club and it's fan base. Those things ate not 1:1, not by a mile, not by a hundred miles and the twist given in the quote even breathes a certain hunger to make something heroic out of the tears that are wept by little children. In the nuance, it's quite disturbing, but we have been over this before so whatever.
You're reading something into it that I'm not. Johnny Hoogerland is someone who's become a cult hero through both his achievements and his misfortunes. The same could be said about Twente.
Seeing that Twente won four out of six prizes to be won in Dutch football over the past couple years and you're still calling us eternal losers, I dread to think how you feel about your own club.
