For the El Salvador friendly, who would you choose if you were USMNT head coach. I would name a 20-man roster and would name all MLS players. Most of the players would be relatively new to the national team. Goalkeeper: - Tim Howard - Nick Rimando Defense: - Carlos Bocanegra - Wade Barrett - Ryan Suarez (heard stuff about him not deciding between Uruguay and USA yet. Can Bruce still pick him?) - Eddie Pope - Danny Califf - Kelly Gray Midfield: - Palbo Mastroeni - Brian West - Demarcus Beasley - Kyle Martino - Brad Davis - Ben Olsen - Bobby Convey - Peter Vagenas Forward: - Edson Buddle - Clint Mathis - Taylor Twellman - Landon Donovan
Convey, at least, will be helping the US qualify for the World Youth Championships with games on 11/13, 11/15, and 11/17: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=22626&itype= I expect Arena won't call anyone for the El Salvador friendly who is on that squad. From the link: "While a roster will not be released until mid-October, the pool of Under-20s includes European professionals, MLS and college players. The MLS players eligible for selection include Devin Barclay (San Jose Earthquakes), Craig Capano (Chicago Fire), Bobby Convey (D.C. United), Ed Johnson (Dallas Burn), Justin Mapp (D.C. United), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United), Miguel Saavedra (Chicago) and Jordan Stone (Dallas Burn)."
Goalkeeper: Howard, Rimando Defenders: Pope, Hernandez, Petke, Jolley, Awkari, Boca, Suarez Midfielders: Donovon, DMB, Mastro, Davis, Olsen, Ralston, Martino, West Forwards: Mathis, Twellman, Buddle
buddle is out for a while. broke a bone in his foot against new england during the first game of the series...he'll be in a cast the next four weeks.
Here's my 22 Rimando, Howard Suarez, Barrett, Bocanegra, Callif, Pope, Garcia Mastroeni, Vaganes, Victorine, Guttierez Beasley, Martinez, West, Olsen, Ralston, Chung Twellman, Mathis, Donovan, Cunningham
Maybe that'll be his farewell game, he's getting kinda old, even to play in the early stages of qualifying.
Where do you get definately? Like what was said above, he's getting al ittle old. I think Bruce will use this as a test for mostly youngsters and I think any defender that will definately be there is Bocanegra. He's played well, has a couple caps, and Bruce likes him a lot.
Llamosa has probably already had his farewell game and will continue to play in MLS. i don't expect to see him next month.
my 22 howard, brown, rimando bocanegra, pope, suarez, califf, heaps, cullen, curtin beasley, mastroeni, vicortine, vagenas, olsen, ralston, russel, klien mathis, donovan, twellman, cunnigham -outside 8 (maybe): cannon, hartman barret, franchino hernandez, davis, martino carrieri
Re: my 22 perhaps with the final 18 looking like: howard, brown bocanegra, pope, suarez, heaps, cullen, califf/curtin bealey, mastroeni, victorine, vagenas, olsen, ralston, kilen mathis, donovan, twellman but then again, it's a bit too early for that...
I don't think Franchino is good enough. Daniel Hernandez, however, has been great. He's fast, strong, tough, cool under pressure, and is very good in free kick situations. When the Revs got him, he was not impressive in the first few games, but he's become a mainstay of the team.
niether of them has what it takes to play internationally, though. hernandez doesn't have the head, franchito doesn't have the skill.
