Well I would favor going back to American style sports names---it seems to me like a natural fit would be the sharks. The Great Hammerhead, Bull, and Tiger sharks all make their homes in florida waters. You can easily rent a boat in the beaches of Miami and Miami Beach and just go a few miles from the beach and be sharkfishing. From a graphic design point of view--there's lots of interesting things that could be done with a shark logo or crest. As far as I know the only shark named team in international soccer that has any type of hype is Tiburones de Veracruz, so on the international stage it is not a name that is as worn out and tired as some others, and it would be very easy to make a shark logo or crest that looks completely different from veracruz's. Miami Sharks, Miami Hammerheads
Not against this personally, but from a marketing/branding perspective, MLS probably doesn't want to look like their copying a NHL club. Soccer teams in Europe sure but not American teams.
I'm sure it is possible to make it different enough so as to avoid copyright issues, but i understand your point.
If it absolutely must be a name from the list then I favor going back to Miami Fusion.. It was a team with wonderful chemistry on the field that deserved better than to die. Valderrama was great in his blue and yellow shirt. It would honor MLS history and establisih continuity between MLS 1.0 and MLS 3.0
Here are a few Ideas I came up with a while back. That have a shark as the mascot. Even though its not in the official name.
I put this in the other thread but maybe this post will get to a larger audience here: I was watching Univision (Fidel is dead coverage) today, and heard for the first time the term Miamense. I was like " Miami what?" Yes Miamense, sounds like Fluminense, Chapocoense, etc. Why not have our MLS Miami team named after that? MIAMENSE, it speaks solely to someone from Miami, it kind of has that pride in it, read the definition here: https://mx.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100111193502AArjM7k It is exactly what it means, just wanted your guys opinion on it. It was just an idea. LMK what yall think. Miamense Atletico Miamense Miamense FC FC Miamense Deportivo Miamense Miamense Deportivo Yall get the idea...thoughts? Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Why not just rename the city of Miami, "Port City". Or Mayaimi. Port City Sports Club Port City Pirates Port City Sharks. Mayaimi City FC. Mayaimi SC.
I dont know if you are being sarcastic but port city is not bad either, the thing isnwhi in this city will reñate to the port? Miamense, means native to Miami, i mean xant be any clearer than that.. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
I little bit of Both... Port City SC it is then lol. Out side of Miami or those knowing much about Miami, I doubt Miamense would be known of. Or how to even pronounce it.
I guess ur not of the spanish speakinh type andy? (MY-AM-ENCE-Y) Miamense, try that out Mr. Bulldog.... Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Anither idea for naming of this team could be like the example you see above, this is a team in argentina close to the pacific ocean. You think Miami can be called Sporting Club Atlantico? Or something along those lines? Thoughts? Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Well if Becks leaves for Vegas,,, and "if" he can get The Raiders' Davis as a partner, they could be called the LV Bandits.
