I read the Your Name manga and then watched the movie. Makoto Shinkai is still an absolute master of just making everything so beautiful and the story is great too. Is it weird that I just liked the manga better? It had a few extra moments in it that I really enjoyed and missed when I actually watched the movie. Anyway, I'm gonna watch Wolf Children next.
I saw the new Star Wars yesterday. I was less than impressed with it. Force Awakens wasn't a good film, but it was a good Star Wars movie; The Last Jedi wasn't a good Star Wars movie, but I thought it was a good film; Rise of the Skywalker split the difference and was neither. I keep getting ads for Weathering With You, which is Shinkai's newest film and I honestly want to see that more than watching the new Star Wars again. Too bad it's not gonna be at the theater within walking distance to me.
I saw Parasite yesterday afternoon. It was good, and I can see why it is up for some awards. Very interesting story line.
At the request of @bunge I watched La Dolce Vita. I liked it. Really cool character study. While it was long, each vignette about Marcello was important to revealing him as whole complicated person. I could also see elements from it that inspired other films I enjoy.
I told my Film History instructor today that I watched it and added "It's three hours and nothing happens." He said "Yeah, pretty much."
