I checked out the StatCounter website...you can see some rally interesting statistics there: http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-200912-201012 Here are some examples: Global: North America: Europe:
yeah, you see, apparently the reason we haven't all switched to Opera is because we were all pre-conditioned long ago to use IE. which is also why more people in Europe use Firefox than IE. don't worry, he's lost me too, and I've got a very silly neg-rep to boost for calling his strange logic out.
I tried Opera once, a long time ago, back when you had to pay for it or suffer through ads built in to the user face. After that, I went to Firefox when it debuted, and now to Chrome. I didn't even know it was offered for free now. That one time soured me on it completely.
I've recently gone back to Firefox from Chrome because I got fed up with not being able to press CTRL-B to make things bold, (for example), in bigsoccer. I also miss the File, Edit, View, etc. easy links at the top of the screen.
One of the first online services, popular during the 1980s and early 1990s until it was sidelined by the World Wide Web...
Using Chromium currently, but will likely use FF4 once it is out of beta. Tried Opera several times, but it just doesn't have the right feel to me. Of course any browser beats my initial internet experiences, which involved gophers and text-only terminals.
CompuServe predated Prodigy, IIRC. CompuServe was more nerdy, and Prodigy was pretty similar to AOL. I was on both, before I switched to Digex around '93 so I could access the "real internet" .
I use Firefox mostly, but I also use Chrome everyday for YouTube, Hulu, MLSnet and other video sites, and I use IE for things dealing with the Microsoft web site (like programming documentation), Bing (it's easier to launch another browser than change the Firefox searchbox settings twice), or buying mp3's on Amazon (it doesn't like the other browsers for some reason).
you know that you can create keywords for specific search engines in FF? when you go to ´manage search engines´ in the top right corner. I use single letters, e.g. ´g´ for google, ´w´ for wikipedia, etc. then you just open a new tap and put that letter + what you are looking for into the address bar. say you want to look for ´Finnish war´in wikipedia, you just type ´w finnish war´ into the address bar, and it goes to straight to the wiki entry. I´ve got a few search engines set up like this, including a translation site and dictionary. you could set one up for bing the same way. sorry if I´m stating the obvious.
The new Firefox Beta is damn fast. I may have to use this for the next few days and see how it compares to Chome.
In my experience, Chome is still faster. The difference isn't very big however and I don't like Chome anyways. I'm still waiting for the next version of Safari, because it is my favorite browser and it's supposed to be a big step forward. But in the meantime, I'm using Firefox a lot.
