simple to get many of the serie a nicknames rosso=red neri=black giallo=yellow blu=blue azzuri=blue bianco=white hence bologna is the rossiblu, parma the gialloblu, juventus and udinese are bianconeri, etc.
SWEET!!! I'm learning Italian already. Knowing these little tid bits makes following Serie A that much more interesting. Thanks for the info.
another clarification: all of those colors are singular with the "o" at the end: bianco, giallo, nero, azzuro, etc... they become plural with the "i": bianchi, gialli, neri, azzuri, etc... the exception being "blu" which does not change from singular to plural. perhaps a worthless piece of information, but oh well.
azzurro is a lighter blue. you also have the term "azure" so it wasn't this difficult to understand. Bologna is rossoblu not rossiblu. (i rossoblu) Also Cagliari is rossoblu. un rossoblu del cagliari
simply different blues... just as we would say light blue, navy, sky blue, ect.... blu - blue azzurri - light blue celesti - sky blue - from celestiale which is heavenly
A couple more, although they're not in Serie A. Sampdoria -- i blucerchiati-- blue hoops, or blue and hooped, I'm not sure which. Their traditional shirt has 3 thin horizontal stripes around the middle. Padova--i biancoscudati-- it appears to be a reference to horses. My best guess is white stable team.

you can also add Palermo (tops in Serie B) to the list, its unique anyway, they are the Rosaneri Pink & blacks
