<lugged frame retrogrouch> Yeah, until it rains or you need to carry some more gear </LFR> Seriously, tho, sweet ride!
Yes, 700x32, disc brakes 10-speed double chain ring, composite fork and seat post. Has connection bosses for racks. I put a rear rack on for paniers. Need to move my Brooks saddle from my TCR to this one. I might add fenders. It also has brake handles on the flat part of the handle bars similar to the ones I had on my 1971 Schwinn Varsity.
You like fenders? I ended up taking mine off my old commuter bike. Just couldn't stand the way they rattled. I also skipped the panniers and put everything in a messenger bag.
I put Planet Bike fenders on my old commuter and never had a problem with rattling. I like paniers, I don't like back packs. Not sure how I'd feel about a messenger bag. It would have to be fairly large.
When I get back to a place where I can bike commute, I'm thinking about getting a back pack instead of messenger bag. I like the feel of the bag against my back.
I ride with both a backpack and a pannier that is more like a suit bag over the back rack. No issues, though it is always interesting when I see a decent performance on a strava segment with all the weight.
It gets so hot here that I'd rather avoid ending up with a sweat soaked back. To each his own, of course.
Indeed! Bike commuting is a worthy pursuit no matter what. I never really worried about sweat too much since I was going to be showering after my ride anyway. Honestly, the time on my bike was probably the only highlight of my stint in Northern Virginia.
I bought my cruiser for just this purpose. I'm not interested in much exertion on the way to work, so I don't push it. If I'm so inclined on the way home I can work up a sweat, as the cruiser isn't the most efficient. But really, it's just a means of conveyance that I exert myself as much as I would when walking.
Looking into acquiring a fat bike. Just because. Its getting close to winter and I want a new bike. Anyone have any experience with them?
Got to use them plenty. Sunday's ride was 3500 ft of climbing and descending. Slowing down on dirt roads with a little bit of frost and wet spots here and there was not a problem.
I need to get me one of these: http://www.cyclegarb.com/new-york-red-bulls-secondary-short-sleeve-cycling-jersey.html
Been a while since I have posted here or anywhere on Big Soccer for that matter. Life happens sometimes and the best thing to come out of it has been my return to cycling and the bike culture which was a huge part of my life for decades. I recently made two purchases which have already paid for themselves in terms of sanity and fitness. A couple years back I had purchased the Trek X Caliber 9 as a commuter. Loved the bike but met and made a friend at the Dublin VA who had been a competitive rider prior to going overseas. Long story short I gifted him the bike. Another friend that I had ridden with heard about it and reached out to a friend that owns a bike shop, also a veteran and got me the above at cost. X Caliber 8 with the additions of Egg Beater Candies and a Brooks Pro Team Imperial. Pay it forward when you can and good things will come back to you. Another purchase... I bought the Emonda S4 after rediscovering the joy and therapy of logging big miles. Great investment and again a great deal via some new friends. Since January I am getting no less than 150 road miles a week to go along with my 13 mile round trip daily commuting miles. I am in the best shape I've been in since my racing days. In November I'll be doing two century rides in the course of one week as well as doing as many charity rides as possible. With calendar year 2017 I may start doing time trials and the occasional crit but who knows and who cares, riding is riding. Good to see this forum is still relatively active. Cheers!
Got hit by a car on the wayhome last night. Crank is bent and I don't know what else. Will take it to the LBS to see if it can be repaired. I'm OK except for a few nasty bruises.
Welcome back! Just in time for the Tour, too. We had a good discussion on last year's Tour thread. Hopefully this one will be just as good. Sent from my SM-T550 using Tapatalk
Shit. That sucks. Glad that you're ok. Cyclists seem to be in the crosshairs these days. Sent from my SM-T550 using Tapatalk
