Apart from the more obviously predictable choices (of remote control, beer / drinks, junk foods / snacks - not that I disagree), what are the 5 most essential things you seriously or humorously most need to have with you, whenever you're watching soccer on tv ?
Besides the Newcastles and some salt and vinegar chips, it's lock the doors and hope my relatives don't show up to ask me stupid questions.
1. A current issue of World Soccer nearby in case I need to look up something. 2. My computer to log in so I can scan the newspaper (El Pais in Madrid, for example) of teams playing to get stuff like standings and stats. I like to rap with other fans too. Normally I do this a lot as Champions League is winding down. 3. My wife out of the house shopping 4. Solid walls. Sometimes I need to vent my frustration. 5. A good cigar. When I was single, I would fire one up in my apartment and enjoy during the game, but now I am married and am resorted to enjoying the cigar post match, outside. Bill-DC
Hear hear!! 1. The kid not demanding anything. 2. The dog already fed and relieved outside. 3. As Bill-DC said 4. The wife not on the phone with her mom in the same room - if #3 fails. 5. Coffee or beer, depending on which direction of sober I want to go. Kevin D.
1. Laptop, in case I need to look up anything of note... and to track the other relative league's scores in progress (whether it be MLS, the NSL here, the English Premiership, or whatever). 2. My wife at my side and the clingy cat asleep on the couch, too. Just so I have someone I truly love and care about to watch a game with me. 3. The obligatory six-pack of VB (Victoria Bitter for the unitiated, the best beer in creation), in stubbies, of course. 4. Meat pies and sausage rolls. 5. And the remote control sitting BEYOND an arm's length, so I can enjoy the game in an unfettered fashion. Mind you, all of these are given criteria for the live Premiership games that come on SBS here on Saturday nights at midnight. Cheers, William
In the morning... A breakfast of eggs, beans, and toast. Sausage if I wake up early enough. And lots of coffee. And cigarettes for halftime. In the evening... A six pack of Becks, Stella, Corona, or Harp. And cigarettes for halftime.
1. friends 2. friends 3. friends 4. the mute button for any hapenstance Jack Edwards appearances (though I suspect there won't be any more) 5. naked women for halftime
1-A nice Kebab or Pizza and an 8 pack of stella 2-A radio to listen to comentary while watching the match. I Detest the TV comentary and the pundits giving (expert) analysis at half time and full time. 3-An empty house if possible. 4-A ball to have a kick about before the match, at half time and full time. 5-Computer or Phone so i can complain to someone about the terrible result/referee or celebrate a great victory.
Soccer at home, even with friends, doesn't do it for me. 1) You need a pub filled with people watching the match, 2) a pint, 3) cigarettes when needed, 4) I enjoy a little rivalry, so opposing fans in the pub are nice, and 5) I've got to say, a few good looking ladies hanging about the premises during the half are always appreciated. Now I know a few of you unfortunate souls in the middle of nowhere USA just aren't going to have these opportunities...tough, move to NYC...
Well... if I've got enough money on my bank account I'll be sure to be in the stadium. But if there's no other way it depends on the kind of match. In general we meet up with other supporters who are staying home in one of our usual pubs.
*yawn* *stretches and tells his mother that he would like some coffee on the double and when she's here she can have a laugh at this American muppet who's telling me to go support a decent team* Wide awake now
1. A phone that doesn't ring. 2. A clear view of the tv. 3. Passionate supporters/friends. 4. Depending on if the game is tape delayed, somebody with enough sense not to say,"Hey, did you see the US beat Argentina?" when I might have had to work or otherwise be occupied and watch the game later. I DETEST it when this happens. 5. Food....Rotel cheese dip/beverage of choice(something with caffeine)
1. A TV. 2. A group of friends. 3. Girls (Half-time entertainment ) 4. Something to kick (incase we lose) 5. Lots of beer!
1)Pizza 2)Beer 3)Wife and girlfriend both out of town 4)A flag of Boca Juniors 5)About five to ten friends, and preferably the event takes place in one of their homes rather than mine, because the place will get trashed
Could not have said it better myself. I love them both, but just how do they find so much to discuss?
Why is it that women seem to find the WORST possible times to try and discuss life/the game/family/friends/work/etc. especially during a good match????
