Honestly makes sense to start McKennie with Goretzka and Bentaleb in a 3 man centeral midfield because Bayern is going to try to control possession. I like the counter attacking shape Schalke seems to have set up in.
Frantic start. A lot of sloppy play and give aways from both teams but Bayern in clear control. Wes not culpable in possession but contributed to the frenetic energy in his own way, running into the ref and a teammate in the first 5 minutes.
Struggling to get into the game, needs to move off the ball a bit better to be an outlet for teammates.
I just saw him with good energy midfield. Bentaleb passed around him, but he ran to support the new ball location, made a run upfield and both gave an option and drew a defender. Solid play.
Don't think that's really his role today and I'd say Schalke as a team is struggling to get into the game.
Not really on board with the penalty decision. If it hit his hands directly then yeah, they are not in a natural position to block a cross. But it took a deflection off his feet and back. There is no natural position for such a strange deflection up into your slide. On that I'd go with the ref in real time and not a slow-mo from VAR.
Yea, I could see McKennie coming off at half... Schalke getting destroyed McKennie has not been able to really make an impact at all he presses a lot but Bayern has been beating the Schalke press pretty easily.
