If the score holds either Mckennie or Geis will almost certainly come on to try to choke the game out. Very intrigued to see what the manager does here.
Wes is on at 78. eta: Forgot I backed it up for the goal. Should have known it would be posted 5 times. Sorry, guys.
Looks like he's playing as a forward. ? Target man to kill off the game, I guess. Already won a few headers.
Gets a yellow on 86' Not sure he's leading the line. Playing up top, for sure, but it looks like he's playing off and a little behind Knonoplyanka to me.
He's playing in that advanced high-pressing role that Tab used with Adams for a couple games at the WC. Maybe Tab is secretly a German tactical expert and we had no idea.
I don't know what you want to call it, but he's lined up in the CF spot. I am not even to 86 yet because I had to keep pausing it to believe my own eyes.
Looks like they're playing them both as False 9s, with Konoplyanka going further forward when they're looking to put the ball behind/move with pace, and Weston goes forwards when they're doing the pressing. He looked fine though, even playing behind. He was alert, quick without being rushed, took up good positions and always aware of the options, with quite decent attempts at link-up play. Clint Dempsey's former team-mate Moritz Volz was doing the analysis. His comments when Weston came on were very interesting "I've been very impressed with him this pre-season. I've been impressed with him in the U-19s of Schalke last season. He's a really cool customer. He won't be fazed now, making his BL debut. He's a player who's very comfortable on the ball: a certain quality. Also, physically, he can handle the Bundesliga. This was a only a 15' cameo, but it supported Volz's rating of the lad.
I personally find it ridiculous that in less than a year, Weston has gone from an FC Dallas academy player to Naby Keita's worst enemy.
He did alright. Had that one particularly good ball retention/dribble and the ball squeaked to his teammate up field. Good pressure, knowing he wasn't going to be out there long. Didn't get home and on the ball much though. The yellow card was a joke. Players do that all the time. You'd have to give out 30 cards per game if that's one. An appearance to build on, but those suggesting him to be part of the senior squad already should relax and want that to happen naturally. He needs 10-15 appearances with the occasional start and look like he belongs to legitimately start talking about that.
