Werders female team finished 5th last season, but the new players seem promising. Maybe Werder can play for promotion (as a dark horse).

Maren Wallenhorst (22 years old, striker, central in the picture) returns to Werder from 1. Bundesliga club Gütersloh. "It was a great experience to play against top teams like Frankfurt, Wolfsburg or Potsdam. I want to return to the Bundesliga ... with Werder."

Hanna De Haan is our new goalie. The 20 years old joins the green-whites from Dutch team Zwolle.

    [IMG][IMG]
Now the women have some Austrians in the team, too. Sandra Hausberger (19, defensive midfield) and Katharina Schiechtl (20, right midfield) join Werder from Wacker Innsbruck.

Madeline Gieseler (20 years, midfielder) played last season vs. Werder, but now joins Werder from Oldesloe.

Finally Michelle Ulbrich (16 years old, defender) joins Werder from the own U17.

    ---
From the players, who leaves Werder, Kea Eckermann joins the Cloppenburg (1. BL), Eva-Marlen Votava (daugther of Mirko Votava, ended her career), Maria Doll (TSV Düring, 4th division) and Josefine Holsten (SF Wüsting-Altmoorhausen, 3th division) move to lower league teams, while Ann-Christin Bopp, Liva Zunker, Nahrin Uyar, Maike Timmermann and Kira Buller all strengthen Werder II in the 3rd division and are eligable to play, if there are (hopefully not) injuries at the 2. BL team.

So, I like the transfers, except Keas departure, and wish the women team all the best for the new league season and the cup (1st round at FFC Recklinghausen, 3rd division, relegated from 2. BL, difficult task).

Manjou Wilde (in front) is the first Werder player, who got nominated for the U19 European Championship (August, 16th - September, 1st in Wales): [IMG]
Last season the now 18 years old already won the U17 EC with the German national team.

Werder could win a test match 4-2 at Dutch Eerendivisie team club PEC Zwolle. Cindy König (2.), Zwolle stroke back with 2 goals (15.), (17.), but Stephanie Goddar (28.) and agin König (44.) secured a 3-2 away lead at the half-time-break. In the second half Cindy König scored her 3rd goal (77.) and secured a 4-2 win that should give some self-confidence (though I don't know how good the 1st Dutch league is compared to the 2nd German league and it was only a test).

The next test matches is against 1st league side from the German Bundesliga. This Thursday Werder plays at SGS Essen. Then next weekend Werder tested at 3. league side Ibbenbühren and the weekend after the ladies do their final test at the Bundesliga side BV "Farmers, pigs and a suggar daddy with lots of cash" Cloppenburg. ;)

Werder reached a 1-1 vs. SGS Essen. The Bundesliga side went 1-0 in front (36.), but Werder striked back by Golebiewski (77.).
The goal was a nice combination by Golebiewski, Goddard and Wallenhorst and Werder had some further chances, but 1-1 is already a good result.

Werders U17 started with a 7-0 win vs. Leipzig into the U17 Bundesliga.
    Match report: http://www.werder.de/de/frauen/news/46079.php

Meanwhile the U15 trashed AGSV Bremen 10-1 (they play in one of the lowest boys leagues).
    Match report: http://www.werder.de/de/frauen/news/46080.php

The 2. BL women side lost their last test 0-1 vs. the "cash cows" from Cloppenburg (1. Bundesliga).
The real season starts this weekend with the 1st round of the DFB cup. There Werder travels to Recklinghausen (Regionalliga, 3rd division).

Our ladies started with a 1-2 home loss into the 2. Bundesliga. Goddard (42.) brought Werder in front, but the team wasted too many chances and Potsdam II could turn the match. Kulis (65.) and Schlanke (79.) scored for Turbine.
Next week Werder has to play against another reserve, promoted VfL Wolfsburg II. The reserve of the CL winner steamrolled the 3. league last years with 118 goals and 26 wins out of 26 matches and also started sucessfully (1-0 away win) into the season. So it will probably not be easy at the plastic clubs women side.

Werder reached the quarter finals in the cup. Today the women team beat VfL Bochum (Bundesliga 2 South) 3-1.
It was a good display and should give the team confidence for the league, where they are currently in midtable, 6 points away from rank 2 (there first is Potsdam II, who can't get promoted).

Werder won today 7-2 against Leipzig. König (3x), Wilde, Goddard, Schröder and Wallenhorst scored for the green-whites. :) Bad news indeed by Manjoe Wilde, she made last month public that she will leave the club to Bundesliga side SC Freiburg. That is very sad, because she was Bremen first youth national player. I hoped she would stay and promote with Werder in one of the next seasons. :( But best of luck for her in the Bundesliga, she has definitely all the skill to make it at SCF.

Werder reports the women team got promoted to the Bundesliga. I am bit surprised because they are 2nd behind Lübars (near Berlin) one match before the end of the season. Probably Lübars does not apply for a BL license.

Good news also from the U17 girls. They won BL North (before high ranked youth teams like Potsdam or Wolfsburg) and won the first semi-finals of the German championship play-offs 4-1 vs. the youth of CL winner 1.FFC Frankfurt. :)

Next week is the returning leg in Frankfurt. In the other semi-final 2nd placed North team Potsdam reached a 1-1 at West champion Gütersloh.

The U17 girls lost 1-3 in the final vs. Turbine Potsdam. Nevertheless it was a great campaign with wins in the regular season vs. Potsdam and Wolfsburg and FFC Frankfurt in the semis. I hope some of them can make it into Werder's women team.

After being relegated last year Werders female team had a good start in 2. Bundesliga with 4 wins from 4 matches.
And in the cup a surprise happened, yesterday Werder elimated Turbine Potsdam (currently 1st in 1. Bundesliga) 5-4 after penalties. Congrats, and keep the spirit up. :)

Werder reached rank one in 2. Bundesliga after a 4-0 at Hohen Neundorf
as Wolfsburg II lost at Potsdam.

    1. Werder Bremen 47 points
    2. VfL Wolfsburg II 45 points
    3. BV Cloppenburg 40 points

With 4 matches to go and Wolfsburg II not being allowed to promote,
6 points are needed to return to the Bundesliga for sure.

Carmen Roth becomes new coach of the Werder women football team. The 38 years old trained befor Bayern Munichs U17 and became champion with them. Werder made the decision because the aim of the club is to connect the Bundesliga with the U17 team well.

Good luck for her. But I expect a tricky season, promoted teams had a tough times in the recent women Bundesliga seasons.
