Pretty sure that’s why he hates it.

I find the text quite defensive (having written lots of this kind of propaganda myself)

    100 page report!

But if we take him at his word (and why not) then I think we simply bank this under poor media handling.

They facilitated or at least allowed the Arteta narrative to build and then cut across it, which means instead of getting the clean splash they wanted, they had to deal with the Arteta thing and justify Emery when they should not have had to do that.

I guess that's the most charitable interpretation

Personally I am quite happy to have Emery. All the strategic detail that happened in the pitches is much more critical than what we as fans know about the history of both men.

No, just saying that while I’m sure Ivan and Co polished things as much as possible before presenting them to the club. I seriously doubt that anything he said was not factually correct. He still answers to shareholders ultimately and the club has records of these things which could come out if there was ever a need. Why lie in a presser and risk your job just to make your team sound marginally more expedient.

Yes, i guess you are right that a more savvy PR handling would have kept the arteta rumors in check.

I will say that I didn’t really see any substantial reporting on arteta. I saw the ornstein article which wasn’t really affirmative and a bunch of tweetsfrom the usual knobs.

I am just being devils advocate here. I don’t rate Ivan particularly high, but now that AW is gone I am excited to see what he can do without the handbrake on. I feel pretty excited by the fact that this business is done effectively as early as possible even if it was less than ideal wrt arteta.

I hope he was handled properly and directly. With some experience under his belt he might be an ideal successor to Emery in a few years.

From reading this thread, some people on here seem to have not liked Wenger, don't rate Emery, don't like Gazidis, and don't like the Kroenkes.
That's basically the whole club, is it not?

Nah, it's more about how people on this board (and anonymous Internet fora in general) just like to complain about virtually everyone and everything.

You can love the lakers but hate:

    Management
    Kobe
    Lonzo
    DHoward trade
    Letting Ariza Go
    Nick Van Exel
    Vlade Divac

love and hate can often be synonyms.

Players and the fans are the club. We love each other around here and we love most of the players.

Or maybe he just decided that the risk wasn't worth?

I fail to see how the whole process was so horribly bungled. We have a new coach in May. That is the only thing that really matter.

We now have the entire team that Arsenal wants. Maybe they will be great. Maybe they will be terrible. We'll find out. But the notion that Arsenal failed because they didn't hire Arteta is just plain weird.

Too many people think their hot takes are just so witty and well thought out that they just HAVE to share them.

Anelka was key to funding the early 00s era

The £22.3 he was sold for in 1999 was Ronaldo level money in league adjusted terms.

I agree it's a shame he wrecked his career with the Real move.

Possibly, but it also could be that some (like me - who used to read daily) were put off by the constant negativity, calling names, and saying every player was "shite".

Some analysis would have been nice - but what was here was a lot of chest puffing for the sake of hearing yourself talk so that a poster might later claim they had dazzling insight.

I came up in a factory law firm in the 90s working till midnight chasing my numbers :D

In 97 my friend left for PR which was then a sunrise industry, and I followed pretty quickly into guerrilla advertising. It was quite an exciting time because "websites" was also pretty much new and was also the era of the Sony mini-DV cam (i.e digital production)

So I pretty much swapped my white collar shirt for a Hawaiian shirt (the uniform of any ad creative in those days) - these days I am more polo shirt :p
