Oh, all of them Joking aside, he could score for a team that has a functioning midfield, so even Bremen could be in that mix (Thomas Delaney), especially if they add some creativity at XMas, along with Koln (the midfield is fine, but the attack . . .). Haven't seen enough of the others (Mainz, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Wolfsburg) to say how he'd work with them.
Kicker is not a fan of Wood this season. His average rating is a 4.83, with the Koln match where he scored his lone league goal earning his only rating better than a 5.0. They didn't rate the loss to Osnabruck of the 3. Liga, where Wood tallied his only other goal of the season, a PK. He earned a 5.0 for the 0-0 against Bremen.
Fin Bartels, who also never scores and looks even worse than Wood in a team that has at least the semblance of a midfield, keeps getting 4 - 4.5. Kicker is a joke.
It was the same last season...whoever rates hamburg for Kicker either hates Wood or thinks he/she is really funny. Similar scores for a season after which several better teams apparently thought enough of Wood to consider buying him.
what are the scores for his teammates? i get that strikers have to score but he should have an average score for matches unless he is missing sitters and clear chances regularly
Giovinco is the best player ever to play in MLS. The rest is a lot of 'put guys behind the ball.' And pass to Gio.
Did you watch the game last night? Jozy didn't score... but was easily one of the most influential players on the field. And the point remains. Toronto spent a fortune on a player who "can't score" and it was a very smart move for the club. People can spew sophistry like "a striker has score!" all they want, but the fact remains it's not that simple and if you have that simplistic a look at the game, you end up like Sunderland, with a 15 goals scorer and the drop. If you have a more nuanced, realistic view of the game, you might win, even if your "must score" striker - whether Wood or Jozy, doesn't always score... Now Hamburg has other problems as well, and if they don't fix those, even a couple of goals by Wood might not be enough. Be great if he finished 100% of the time, but no one (that a Hamburg is willing to pay for) does that.
since we've drifted. I thought it might be interesting. comparing Wood to previous US strikers of note. Like say EJ or Davies or Twellman or even the older guys like Mathis/Moore/McBride/Wynalda.
Nah man. TFC is for real. Gio has been hurt a lot this year and that team has never missed a beat. They are about to have the greatest regular season record in MLS' history.
You do realize that you started this discussion with "since we've drifted," right? Please read posts from @bungadiri here.
Go and explain the Hamburg fans the "complexities of the game" and why having a striker who won't score is a good thing: https://www.rauten-forum.de/index.php?thread/16713-bobby-wood/&pageNo=156 "A transfer would have been better for HSV." "In this form he belongs on the bench." "Not Bundesliga quality. Once you get one, you get another Lassoga. 3 million wasted." "A non-entity today, worst player on the field." Etc.
Ha. I was thinking it smells like Newcastle's Gooch! (Did I mention what a fan I am of that team and their speedy fullback?) I'm gonna suggest Wood finds his mojo in time to sneak out of relegation by a point or two... but I wish I was more confident about it.
Let's not forget it is remarkable how far Bobby has come. Until he got hot with Union Berlin about two years ago, many thought he would end up a true bust. Prior to that, he was struggling to play on some very poor Bundesliga II teams. The fact that he's fighting to score on a Bundesliga team is a big accomplishment, in light of where he came from. Here's to hoping he ends the slump with some goals this weekend.
