It would make more sense (but still not much) if Klinsmann was doing this, based on his personal relationship with Bobby. But he and Bruce are essentially strangers. I think it might be misinformation. I bet Bruce is coming to europe for a couple of weekends of games for the end of the year, and plans to chat with Bobby about his club situation. I doubt he will be directly involved in negotiations.
You want someone doing in-person scouting and communicating with NT players' clubs, and with Herzog out of the picture it doesn't hurt for Arena to pick up some of the slack with respect to European-based players. Plus it could lead to future opportunities of his own...
i honestly think he's just enjoying a vacation to Germany and is using the whole "analyzing Bobby" as an excuse.
Not that I want to derail a thread but . . . In actual football news Leverkusen lost 4-1 to Schalke last night - in Leverkusen. HSV are now just 3 points behind. Win and they'll be out of 15th only on goal difference with 3 games to go. Bayer are in rag order - on 35 minutes they'd covered 3km less than Schalke, despite being 3-0 down after just 18' FFS - and could collapse completely if they don't get some fresh ideas on the bench. The question is, who the hell would take over this rabble with so little time left? In a relegation struggle, it's not just about how good you are/are not; it's also about whether there are 3 teams playing worse than you. Right now, Bayer are a whole lot worse.
any chance that Hamburg will reinforce the squad (if they beat relegation) or will they continue to be relegation fodder?
They'll reinforce. Wisely is another question. Pretty sure the new tv deal kicks in this summer and the worst Bund clubs are supposed to receive ~ €60M from it. The top 6 ~ €100-120M. It's an enormous increase. HSV received ~ €26M last year and BVB ~ €39M. Not positive the deal kick in this summer though. Might be next. As an aside, BVB's spending will be interesting when they get €100-120M to play with.
I think the big deal is the article implies that he's going there to discuss Bobby's future at Hamburg as if he's going to tell Bobby what to do or get in the middle of things with Hamburg and Bobby. I assume he's just going there to watch him play and talk to him, so I'm right there with you on "what's the big deal?" Maybe his future will come up and Arena will offer some advice, but otherwise I don't see Arena trying to exert much influence on Wood's career path.
BW's future club concerns are none of his business. To think that Arena is going there to discuss such is ludicious. If anything he's there to watch, check his fitness/physical well being and make sure he's still in for playing w USMNT. If he likes beer, as I do, he will b getting gooned up. Schnitzel is also high on the list. Nothing more and nothing less.
From what we hear from the younger contingent of USMNT they were glad that Klinsmann was interested in their careers and success on a personal level beyond if they could just play for him on the USMNT when called up.
YUUUUGE game today....he starts on FS1 in an hour here's a PBP https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/hamburger-sv-wood-vs-augsburg-9-30-est-fs1.2046773/
Things looking bleak right now. Although, 16th place is pretty much familiar territory for HSV. Featuring in the playoffs is basically an annual ritual at this point. They wouldn't have it any other way.

Not good enough for Dortmund, that's fine. He should look elsewhere even if they stay up. Hamburg's midfield provides him little service.
The Good: HSV last three games includes two hosting Mainz (#14) and Wolfsburg (#15). Augsburg has to play #9 'Gladbach & #4 Hoffenheim away, and Dortmund at home. The Bad: The Top 4 in the 2.BuLi are looking like quite capable teams. It's going to be a tight playoff. The Ugly: Bobby not looking particularly good, even correcting for the lousy defending & the limited midfield.
